It took her some time before she finally decided to come down from the car as she didn't have much time, her Dad was worried and kept trying to ask and understand what the problem was but she couldn't say. He was a patient man and simply just waited until she was ready but she knew she couldn't stall for too long as her father had other things to do and she couldn't just chicken out of this, so she grew some balls and stepped down from the car with a smile on her face trying her best to reassure the old man that she was fine but she couldn't fool the old man, worry still eminent on his face he let her be thinking that she was going to tell him when she felt comfortable enough. She had been like that for weeks and he was slowly running out of patience because he was worried about his dear daughter, he simply didn't want to think of the worst.
She stood there, watched and made sure that her father's car was out of sight of the parking lot. There came that feeling of dread again, she stood at the entrance of Calvilton High, willing her feet to move but she couldn't, she felt stuck. She couldn't even care or concentrate on the things around her, almost as if what she awaited inside those big high gates were more dreadful
"You've been standing here for quite some time. I'm sure it isn't that bad". A male voice spoke behind her but she didn't move, didn't act like she heard him. But she did, how couldn't she, his voice was smooth and calming. Almost made her forget her fear, almost
"I bet it isn't as bad as it seems. I'm also new here", he spoke up again, but that sweet voice succeeded in reminding her of her fear. If only he knew
"If you want we could walk in together", he kept on speaking when she clearly wasn't answering and seemed not be interested at all In whatever he was saying.
"Or not. I hope you have a nice day" he said finally indicating that he was going to leave. In a way she wanted to keep listening to the sweet sound and rhythm of his voice
"Try counting from 5 to 1 while holding your breath. It helps me too". He said and she heard the sound of his shoes moving forward. Not once did she look at him, but his melodious voice kept ringing in her head and she did exactly what the stranger told her to do. She let go of all the evil thoughts and memories that flooded her brain from last session while breathing out, her feet started moving again and she saw herself in front of her classroom.
Deserted by all the people she thought were her friends except Ailee the sweet social butterfly, she purposely chose a seat at the right side back of the class slightly close to the window where she couldn't properly be noticed. Ailee wasn't there today because she was just arriving from the U.K today and couldn't meet up, she didn't also want to go to school today but she didn't want to feel like a weakling. She thought she could survive just a day by herself but she'd been starting to think otherwise, the gossips and whispers had already started but they weren't that much, not much people had noticed her yet since it was a new session and people were still catching up
"I thought she changed school" came one of the whispers that she heard. She tried cutting and shutting down those voices by focusing on something else so she brought out her EarPods.
The music helped for a while until she noticed that the Maths teacher was arriving, he was the only one that cared to teach on the first day of school, she had to put her pods down for the period of class, it wasn't even allowed. She bent her head down and tried to go unnoticed in class so she wouldn't be put in the spotlight, it worked for a while. The teacher was revising topics/equations from the last session that she already knew by heart so she tried keeping herself busy by drawing out sketches of clothing designs. Her mind kept wandering back to the voice she heard from earlier at the gate and she wished to hear it again, wanting to record him talking again, it was creepy but you couldn't blame her it was soothing to her ears. And almost as if the Lord granted her wishes, she heard the voice again. At first she thought she was dreaming, it was all in her head but it couldn't he was introducing himself to the class. Nelson Monroe that was his name, she didn't hear when the teacher introduced a new boy but her ears definitely perked up when he started talking, she'd recognize that voice anywhere but she still didn't look up to see the owner of that face. She heard the whispers already of how gorgeously looking he was but she still didn't look up, she didn't know why.
Everything was going well until the teacher put her in the spot and asked him to take a seat in front of her, mentioning her name while at it.
"Take a seat in front of Sara Williams" the teacher mentioned casually, if only he knew the gravity of his words.
The atmosphere grew cold and at that point, those that didn't notice or forgot remembered instantly and the whispers started again, unfortunately for her the bell rung signaling the end of the teachers period and giving more time for her classmates to ridicule her.
As the teacher left, her classmates didn't fail to disappoint her, she developed anxiety attacks from the last experience and felt it coming but she tried not to let her classmates affect her too much. She muted the voices of her classmates while staring at the back of Nelson, memorizing his structure and the simple details, she didn't understand why he was interesting to her but still she kept on looking, he served as a good distraction until one of her classmates Tracy thought the whispers weren't enough and decided to openly call her out.
"What's a slut like you still doing here" she shouted for everyone to hear. Sara tried her best not to pay attention.
"It would have been wiser to change schools but I guess the humiliation wasn't enough" Tracy said throwing daggers at the poor girl's heart, Sara's ears had already perked up and couldn't stop herself from listening
"With the shame you brought upon yourself and your parents. One would think" one of her friends continued for her and the whole class agreed and were all making their own assumptions and making her feel less of a person. At this time her breathing started coming out hazed, she was on the verge of crying and going into one of her attacks.
"Pitiful" Tracy mocked her in a final tone and that did the trick. She felt droplets falling from her eyes, she tried to control herself, her breathing, her tears but she was finding it hard to.
"That's enough" shouted the guy whose voice had charmed her but it's magic couldn't work for her at this point, she was focused on trying to hold everything in. His voice tho managed to shut up the ones that had something to say about her.
"You're not any better for making trying to make a fool out of someone" his sentence was a direct jab to Tracy, he didn't know anything about the situation but it felt all wrong to him. He had seen the girl earlier today despite her lack of enthusiasm towards him, he still found her interesting and wondered why she felt so scared. Now, he understood. He gently dragged Sara out of there, she didn't even know she was being dragged, she was still trying to focus on not disgracing herself further.
The person finally let her go and collapsed to the floor, they were all alone. He gently touched and this time she felt it, noticed him, she felt him all around her, it was electrifying. She didn't even understand anymore, she was still crying but she still managed to feel him through her pain. He hugged her trying to comfort her, it was too much for her and there she let it all out. He simply held her and waited for her. When he felt she was calmer, he said four simple words.
"It will be okay", that voice. She finally looked up to see him properly, the first time seeing his face and she understood what the whispers were for upon his arrival. She looked into his brown luscious eyes and it was electrifying, simply magnificent. She had never felt anything like this and it was almost as if he felt the connection. Looking deeply into those eyes right there and then, she knew everything was going to be okay.
