Bradly was flying fast and low along the route,
"Clear Brad." I call.
"Ready Hawke?"
"Ready."
He pulls the lever and my head slams back against the chair,
"Holy shit."
"You okay?" he gasps to the com.
"Never bet-" I take a sharp inhale, the pressure building in my chest and ribs. Bradly levels the plane and I feel the O2 return to my lungs.
"We made it! We made the target!" Bradly yells.
"Holy shit! Holy shit, we did it!" we high five.

2 hours prior:

"Alright today we have a test route, it is almost an exact replica of what the actual mission would look like. You have a 2.30 time cap. The actual mission is 2.15. " Maverick says to the tv screen behind him.
"Thats crazy." Mustang says.
"Is it even doable?" I ask.
"Yes it is, thats why we practice Hawke." Mav says.
"Let's practice then." Bradly says.

Present time:

We were all sitting in the classroom, me and Bradly were the only pair to make the target on the course.  Mav comes into the room,
"Why are you dead?" he asks me and Bradly.
We both look at him with a confused look, "Sir, they are the only ones to complete the course." Phenix comes to our defence.
"A minute late, there was too much time to let enemies shoot him down."
I look at Bradly with a funny expression, "you don't know that." he says.
"You need to fly faster, you're not flying fast enough. You have no time to waste" Hangman chimes in.
"We made it, to the target." Bradly says in a sharp tone.
"The enemies have superior air crafts." Mav says.
"Then it's a dog fight."
"Bradly," I put my hand on his arm.
"Against 5th generation fighters in a F/18?"
"There is more than just the plane sir, it is pilot."
"Exactly!" Mav says.

I give Mav a look of shock, Bradly's jaw tightens, and he sits back in his chair a little bit. Bob and Phenix look at me, I shrug.

"There's more than one way to fly this mission, sir." I say to Bradly's defence.
"You don't get it do you? Both of you! On a mission like this a man flys like Maverick or man doesn't come home, no offence Nat."
"And yet somehow you still manage." Bob leans forward and looks at Hangman.

Go Bob.

"We are going in to combat that no living man has done before, not even Maverick. There's no time for the past," Hangman says.
Bradly tenses at his words and turns to Hangman, I shift in my chair and tighten my jaw, "What's that supposed to mean?" I ask.
"Hawke," Mav says in a warning tone.
"Oh come on. I can't be the only one who knows that Maverick flew with the Bradshaw kid's old man."
"Jake." Mav says with a warning tone.
"And that Maverick was with their old man when he-"

Bradly gets up and lunges at Hangman with force, before I even register it I am also standing up and going with my brother. All the other pilots pull Brad and me off of Hangman, Mav taking Bradly and Phenix taking me. Mustang pulls Jake away from Bradly on the other side.
"You son of a bitch!" Brad yells.
"Shut your damn mouth!" I add.
"Hey, hey, ignore him it's okay." Bob pulls me into his chest.
"I'm cool, I'm cool. You two aren't cut out for this mission and they both know that." Hangman adds to the overflowing pot.
I swing my arm at him, and Bob pulls it down to my side, "Hey, hey."
"I am telling the truth and you all know that." Hangman says as he walks past me and my brother, getting too close to my face for my liking.
"Bastard." I huff walking out of the classroom.

I sat in the women's change room, I was mad, I was livid, how dare he say those things about me and my brother and most importantly my dad. My dead dad at that. I wanted to punch him, give him two black eyes. I was mad. I slammed my fists onto the bench I was sitting on, over and over again.
Knock, knock.
"Hawke? You okay?"

Bob.

"Yeah, just mad."
"Can I come in?"
"Yeah."
He comes sheepishly into the change room and comes to sit beside me. He wipes the angry tears off my face.
"Ignore him, he's an idiot." Bob says.
"I know it's just, just..."
"Your dad and brother?"
"Yes!" I say in a drawn out breath.
Bob rests his arm around my shoulders, "You don't owe Bagman time or day."
I rest my head on his shoulder, "I know."

Knock, Knock, Phenix's head pops through the doorway,
"I have someone for you."
She opens the door more to revel Bradly, he comes into the change room and I meet him half way, I get my big brother/dad bear hug.
"I'll be in the hall." Bob says leaving me and my brother for a moment.
"I hate him," I say into Brad's chest.
"Don't give him that amount of respect."
I laugh, "I miss dad so much."
"I know kiddo, I do too."
"And mom, I miss mom."
"I know."
"I just wish they were here," I sniff, angry tears streaming down my face again.
"I do too."

I hear Bradly sniff too.

Authors Note:
Hey!
I really liked writing this chapter, going back to the film and watching the scene to get the dialogue right and adding in Hawke was something really challenging but I really liked that challenge! I also loved the brother sister moment at the end! So I hope y'all liked it as much as I did writing it!

Lots of love and Stay safe <3 :)
