Heartbreak Weather

Laur and Mike were laying in Mike's bed when they were interrupted by a knock at the door. Both shot up from their intertwined position on the bed. As soon as Michael realized what had happened he let out a loud groan.

"I swear we can never be alone." Laur mumbled under her breath as Mike blew out an exasperated breath.

"Come in." Mike shouted, realizing that neither of them had actually acknowledged whoever was knocking. A few moments later the door opened to reveal Calum who looked disheveled. His eyes were red and his hair was sticking up in a thousand different angles as if he had been tugging on the strands.

"Can I steal Laur from you for a few minutes?" Cal asked quietly, not quite meeting Michael's eye. Mike sighed softly before getting up and walking towards his friend. He clapped a hand on Cal's shoulder and pulled him in for a hug.

After breaking the hug, Cal looked around the room for a moment before breaking the silence, "Could we maybe talk in my room?" He asked softly.

"Sure, I'll be right there Cal." She smiled as he walked out, closing the door behind him. Mike walked back over to the bed with a pout on his face, sitting down next to her.

"Don't be gone too long." Michael whispered. A small smile appeared on her face at his clinginess.

"I'll try not to." She replied, leaning down to kiss him softly. Mike instantly relaxed into the kiss and attempted to deepen it. Laur pulled away as soon as she realized his intentions. Prompting a frown to appear on her boyfriend's face.

"I love you." He sighed, laying back down on the bed with the same displeased expression.

"I love you more." She responded before pecking his lips again. "I'll be back soon"

Laur walked over to Calums room, confused about what the boy could be upset about. Last they really had spoken he was over the moon about everything. She passed the dining area and was surprised to see that only Nia and Ashton were there, both lost in their own books.

"I thought Luke was with you guys?" Laur said, leaning against the door frame. Both Ashton and Nia looked up with a confused expression looking around the room.

"He went to the bathroom a while ago but now that you mention it he never came back." Nia answered, her brows wrinkled. Attempting to make sense of the situation.

Laur let out a hum before asking, "And you guys haven't seen Shay?"

The couple exchanged a quick look, "Isn't she in Cal's room?" Ash replied.

"Nope, cause I'm meeting Cal there."

"Huh. Well let us know if you find anything more." Nia said, before turning her focus back on her book dismissing Laur. Laur rolled her eyes before turning around and walking towards Calums door. She knocked softly and opened the door when she heard a muffled "Come in."

As she walked in she could see that Calum still looked just as distraught as when he showed up at Mike's room. She gave him a confused look before throwing herself onto the bed next to him.

"What's going on babe?"

Calum grumbled something barely audible, forcing Laur to lean a little closer to him.

"Speak up. I can't understand shit you're saying." She teased, bumping his shoulder softly.

He took a deep breath and fixed his gaze to the ceiling. "Shay and I just broke up." He said, slightly louder than before. Laur immediately stilled.

"Why the fuck would you do that?" Laur spat, looking at him like he had lost his mind. Which, as far as she was concerned, was the case.

"Well, she doesn't see a fucking future with me Laur. What did you want me to do? Hang around until she finds someone she actually fucking loves and tosses me aside?" He shot back, unleashing his hurt and anger at his best friend.

"She said that?" She replied, his harsh words not affecting her. She realized that the frustrations he was projecting on her weren't actually her fault.

Calum slumped slightly, some of the anger and adrenaline leaving his body. He was hoping for a fight. Hoping for anything that would take his mind off the gaping hole he currently felt in his chest.

"Not in those exact words but that's what it came down to." He scoffed, still refusing to meet Laurs gaze. Laur stayed silent at his confirmation. She couldn't believe Shay. How dare she just string him along if she never actually saw them being a long term thing. Especially when it was so clear that Cal was in over his head. She could feel herself getting worked up. Not just on behalf of Cal, although that definitely played a large part, but also for the way she might put a strain on her relationship with Mike and her friendship with Calum. It was so selfish, which was honestly so unlike her best friend. But maybe she had just misjudged her.

"I'm so sorry Cal." She eventually said, pulling him in for a hug. As soon as he felt her hold Cal couldn't contain his tears any longer.

"I love her, Laur." He said quietly. "I don't know how to do this without her now."

"You'll figure it out." She whispered. "What do you wanna do now?"

Cal shrugged, honestly just being exhausted from the emotional turmoil the day had brought. "I just wanna wallow for a bit."

Laur let out a loud sigh, not really the answer she was hoping for. "Fine. Today you get to wallow. Tomorrow, you, me and Mike are going out." She said, getting back up from the bed.

Calums face twisted up in disgust, "What makes you think I'm in the mood to third wheel?" He grumbled.

"Awe, cute. You think you have a choice." Laur replied, ruffling his hair. Calum let out a loud groan and fell back onto the bed.

"Close the door on your way out." He said, turning away from his friend. A frown appeared on her face. "I love you, Cal. We'll figure it out. Promise." She said, leaning down and pressing a kiss on the side of his head.

"Love you." He replied, ignoring the rest of her statement. Laur stayed there a moment longer, pondering how she could help. Eventually she figured she should just give him the space he asked for, for the day at least. The rest she would figure out tomorrow.
