Prologue

I gently close the door of the bungalow. Sorry Cas, I think. He wanted to come, but I can't stop myself, and I don't want to lose him. I grab my bike and drive straight to the spot. The wind feels cold against my cheeks, yet they burn. Am I really going to do this? The pliers feel heavy in my bag, even though they are small. Shall I do it? Yes, I need to know. I toss my bike into the bushes and then make my way through the branches and leaves to the fence. I take the pliers from my bag and cut a piece of the fence. The noise is loud in the stillness of the night, but I cut through anyway. I cut and cut until there is a hole that I can fit through. First my left leg, then my left arm and then the right side of my body. I don't touch the gate because I know it's under tension. I see them stumbling again. I walk through the trees. I hide in the shadows. Suddenly I hear a shot. I look around, where did that come from? Another bang. It is coming closer. I run away, without looking back. I can already see the hole in the fence. But suddenly I trip and I fall into a small pool of water. Why can't I stand up? I hear running feet and another bang. Then I feel it. A burning pain sweeps from my side all over my body. People shout, I see feet. Bare, dirty feet. The People. I wanna shout for help,but then it all turns black.
