“Get back here!” A boy with a small frame yelled, chasing it and yelling for it to stop and hand over his clothes. Pillows, clothes, and, most importantly, Kim Dokja's blood and sweat filled the living room floor.

If there’s only one thing that Kim Dokja wished for this summer, it’s that he never spoiled that bastard.

—-—-—-

Kim Dokja was casually doing chores when he heard the front door open and his breath hitched. He couldn't help but recall unpleasant memories from his childhood, but he is grateful for everything the Yoo family has done for him and his mother.

“Dokja-ya, I'm home!”

Kim Dokja took a few deep breaths and regained his composure before greeting his mother with a hug and rewarding him with kisses all over his face. This was pure bliss, away from his alcoholic father, bullies, and gossiping neighbours.

Kim Dokja brought her mother a glass of water after their usual greetings, knowing his mother had just gotten out of her morning shift. “Thank you Dokja-ya.” She smiled, happy that her child finally has a better childhood, he noticed this and sighed. They sat down on the couch.

Lee Sookyung set the glass of water down on the side table and searched her bag for something. “Dear, close your eyes,” Kim Dokja obeyed her mother's orders, and dark thoughts soon entered his mind. Those dark memories he tried to forget still bothered him. ‘*I’m Yoo Joonghyuk I’m Yoo Joonghyuk I’m Yoo Joonghyuk*’ He repeated it like a mantra. He admired his bestfriend's bravery and everything else about him.

Kim Dokja felt something hard and heavy in his hands.“You can open them now.”  He opened his eyes and stared dazedly at the box in his hands. He turned to face his mother, then back to the box. Tears form in his eyes.

“M-om..this is t-too much”

“Nothing is too much for you, my dear.”

Kim Dokja's tears started to fall one by one as she hugged him. He was crying now, not because he was sad, but because he was happy. What did he do to have a mother like this? He probably saved countless lives in his previous life. He was grateful for his hardworking and loving mother.

Kim Dokja's mother urged him to open the box once he had stopped crying. He studied the new phone in his hands; it wasn't the newest or the oldest model, but it was still expensive. He was happy to finally get a new phone after using the one his mother gave him on his 9th birthday; he never expected to get a new one so soon.

The real question is, why did she buy him a new phone? Her mother was not the type to buy items that she deems are useless at the moment. He kept making possible scenarios that might’ve caused his mother to buy him a phone. His train of thought was stopped when he heard his mother laugh.

“Your habits still haven't changed. You really shouldn’t lick your lips, or else you’re going to have chapped lips.”

Kim Dokja scoffed at his mother’s remark, he really got his silver tongue from his mother.

“Anyways. Since it’s your summer break, we decided that you'll be staying at Yoo Joonghyuk's place for a week or two,"

Huh? Kim Dokja was thrilled that he’ll be staying at his bestfriend’s place. Yes, they might have gone to each other’s place, but they really haven't tried a sleepover at one of their houses. The question is, why? Was she going somewhere? If so, why Yoo Joonghyuk’s place?

“You’re staying there since me and his parents are going on a business trip. You’ll be going tomorrow morning, so you better pack your bags later.”
