A Secret of Mine

Who Where What and Why?

The phone hangs up. I have a blank look on my face. There is no one left in the school except some of the staff and the principal. Here I am, standing here alone in the school after I get a call. If you're wondering what it said, here it is:

The phone rings. I pick it up. There is a voice, unfamiliar to any I have heard before. The voice is quiet, but I can make out words, but just barely. But the ominous voice starts talking louder but still faint.

He (as it sounds male) says: "If you don't arrive at my destination, you and your family will be punished severely for concealing this abomination of natural law! You know how to find me, or are you too stupid to even use the device. Appear at the destination at 8:00 pm SHARP. You arrive too early or too late, you will be severely punished! I know your secret, so don't act like little miss innocent! See you then....if not....." there is silence. The caller has hung up.

My first thought was to call the police and not show up. But they would probably ask why I needed help, and need to know my secret. If I don't show up, that could surely make it worse! And my family had nothing to do with it. This was all my fault. I felt so terrible.

He was right about one thing, though. I am smart enough to figure out his location. Apparently, he shared it on his phone. The problem was, the location was out of state! So far out. I check the number of miles away..."ONE THOUSAND MILES!!!! How am I supposed to get there! I can't drive, I don't have enough money to take a plane, boat, or train, and I can't freaking ask anyone for help! I don't where the heck my mom, sister, or dad are, the only people left in this terrible, anxiety filled school is the insane curriculum addicted principal, and the rude and ignorant staff. Figures, all the good, helpful staff has already left! Just my luck! Why did my friends have to leave!" I feel so alone and lost in this big cruel world.

Then I check the clock. It's already 3:12. " HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO GET THERE IN 4 HOURS AND 48 MINUTES!", I shout aloud. Some girl walks by and looks at me like I've gone crazy. But who can blame her? I have gone crazy. Then I remember.....I can fly! But I can't be seen....then I remember the wand I keep with me, in case of emergencies. (no this is not Harry Potter) And is this an emergency or what. I'm kinda rusty at it, though, so I go to the behind of the school where no one can see me and test it out on some sticks and rocks.

If you haven't figured it out already, I'm going to turn myself invisible and fly as fast as I can until the spell starts to wear off. I'm a pretty fast flyer, so I should be able to make it in time. If I get there too early, I'll wait until exactly 8:00. Frankly I don't understand why it has to be so exact.

I am trembling with fear. I have successfully completed the spell. So I lift up my wand, and just when I'm about to turn invisible...Marcia, one of the office staff, walks out of the office. I have enough time to hide my wand, but not myself. "What on earth are you still doing here Annie! Don't you know it's already 3:23? You should be at home! And what are you hiding..." grumbles Marcia. "Me??? Nothing at all. Why would I be hiding something?", I say.

I can tell she doesn't believe me. The tone of my voice was a dead giveaway. My palms are sweating with fear. I'm running out of time! "Well, ok then. But I'll be watching you tomorrow", she says in a displeased tone. I was sure she was going to try to investigate more, but I guess she just wanted to go home. "That is if I'll be there tomorrow", I think to myself.

As she heads off in the car, I get back to the spell. I wonder if anything happened to my family, and if they're already with the stranger. I decide I'm going to use the spell, stop at home, and get going, unless there is a change of plans, so to speak.

Once again, I raise my wand and attempt the spell again. It succeeds, and I am no longer visible. Oh, and in case you're wondering, I don't need dust to fly. Just my wings.

Fluttering my wings, I start to lift off the ground. Soon I am 15 feet up in the air. I flap my wings so more, and zoom, I'm off to my house.

When I arrive, I give the code to the garage and go through the door. When I enter the house, I use my want to become visible once again. Then I remember something..."Venus? Are you here?" I shout. "Mom! Dad! Kate! Where are you?!?!" I shout it out one more time. My family isn't here. Then I hear a bell. "Venus?"

"Thank goodness, your home! I have to tell you what happened!", says Venus. "You sound worried! Did anything happen to the family?!? Are they ok?" Are they...", Venus interrupts me. "Sit down. I'll tell you everything that happened.", he says quietly.

"Ok, but make it quick. Not to be snappy, but I have to be somewhere at exactly 8:00 one thousand miles away..."

"Alright, I'll make it quick but detailed. You'll need all the help you can get", Venus says.

"Here's what happened. I was in the middle of a very important nap when there was a knock on the door. I was already awake, so I thought I would observe the situation. Jean (Annie's mom) answered the door. There was a weirdly dressed "business man". He was offering to sell her something, but she politely declined. He kept trying, but she didn't want his product.

Then he got mad and said to bring the family to the door. Jean wasn't going to have it, but she knew he was never going to leave unless she let him.

I could tell she was worried. She got the family, handed him the camera, and took a deep breath. "Smile!" said the man. He snapped the picture, started to hand it back, and came in the house. He slammed the door shut, and grabbed a plastic garbage back and put them in it. Then he tied the bag with their helpless screams. Turned out he had a wagon with him. I ran down the stairs as fast as I could, but I was too late. He drove off in a trailer with Jean, Rodrick, and Kate!"

"I just wish I could have done something! I feel so guilty about the man escaping!" exclaims Venus.

"There really was nothing you could do, but now I have to find them!", I say. "Maybe I can come along! Who knows, you could use one of your spells on me."

"You know, maybe I could use your help. I'll use a lifting spell and you can go wherever you want with me!" I say excitedly.

"Do you have time to give me a quick lesson before we leave?", says Venus.

"Sure, but lets hurry we have to go! It's already 3:47" So I go in the backyard with Venus and teach him the basics. "Looks like we're all set.", I say.
