By the lake

She sat sobbing

Covered in sweat and dirt

She didn't regret what she'd done

Only that she hadn't done it sooner

She had been trapped

Unknowingly

For so long

And one day

She realized

This isn't life

I'm not living

She wanted to live

To breathe the air

The way real people did

So she ran

Until her lungs finally gave in

Till she couldn't breathe the city air

Until it was the woods

Where her happiness lied

Where she could hear the music playing

For her

She stopped listening to people

She stopped using the outline of life

That was given at birth

The rules she didn't want to follow

She knew then

She didn't have to follow them

Her body finally noticing the changes

The rules broken

Made others sad

But she

She was happy

Something she'd never been before

She thanked her mother

For showing her how much

She truly hated the rules

Then said goodbye

And never looked back

Until found sobbing lakeside

Where she saw all the other opportunities

She didn't take

But she didn't regret it

Because it made her happy

For so long
