Caera Denoir POV:
"Where is she?" I asked the handsome horned man walking a few steps in front of me. His large figure slowed down as he turned his head to look at me.
"Scythe Seris is waiting in the training grounds. Please keep following me, Lady Caera. We will be there shortly." The retainer, Cylrit said as his crimson eyes gleamed sharply.
Nodding silently, I trailed behind him. My eyes stayed glued to the narrow corridors that we were walking in, while my mind was at a place it had mostly been, ever since the end of Victoriad.
My mind was on Grey.
Pushing back the images of his severely handsome face, I again, wondered where he was and what he was doing?
That one question, gave birth to another, and then to another after that—like the ripples caused in the lake surface, after dropped with pebbles.
Was he thinking about me? Did he miss me—erm, miss going on ascents with me? Questions popped, but the only person who could answer them was nowhere to be found.
No. I corrected myself. There is one person who has more knowledge on the mysterious man than anyone I've met, since.
Scythe Seris.
It also posed new questions—or rather, doubts—about what I had just heard from my blood. The sighting of a blond haired man with golden eyes and purple lightning...in the continent of Dicathen.
'...'
That single sentence of information seemed to change a lot of things for me. Things that I knew about Grey. It was like redoing a poorly half-finished puzzle, by removing several pieces randomly, and rearranging them with hands tied and eyes blindfolded.
It was overwhelming... My mind became chaotic.
Our relationship, while complicated at best, had lied on the facts of unspoken trust and respect we had and maintained for each other. It was what led me and Grey, both, to keep up with our deals even beyond what was promised at the beginning of—what was our forced partnership.
To put it simply, we became friends.
But friends don't lie to each other, now do they? I asked myself deeply, unable to come up with the right answer. It also made me realise a forgotten fact.
That, Grey was my first friend. My only friend.
But, it was becoming evident that the man didn't see me as such. Or did he, when he gave me that final look of guilt and regret when he vanished in front of my eyes?
I didn't know... I didn't know Grey at all.
I was only being naive, if anything. So, how do I react to this latest news, if I'm not even sure about what our relationship was? About what I mean—meant—to Grey.
Putting the never ending questions and thoughts aside, I focused back on the retainer who had stopped walking. A large steel door sat in the middle of the wall before us. Cylrit imbued his decay mana into the onyx stone as the door clicked opened and swung inwardly, without making any noise.
Inside was a large training area, and a private portal for multi-use. A privilege only the Scythes and the Sovereigns had. Of course, the High Sovereign as well.
My eyes shifted from the portal to a small figure who stood ramrod straight, in attention. Despite her short height, she looked like she was above all of us. The mana contained in her figure said the same, as it pulsed and thrummed visibly.
As soon as her deep set of dark eyes landed on me, I bowed slightly. "Scythe Seris."
My mentor, Scythe Seris looked at me with an unreadable face. It reminded me of Grey, and how he would always mask himself with a cold and stoic face that I could never get any read out of.
