Our Shallow Past

Flight to Venice

Flight was going to take off in 30 minutes. Maya was really happy because of the trip and also because Arjun was sitting just beside her. And Jai was busy flirting with the tourist. 

“Flight will be taking of in 5 minutes. Please keep your phone.......” the flight attended announced 

“So don’t get scared when the plane shakes. It will be just some minor turbulence eOk" Arjun informed her. She nodded like an obedient child. This made Arjun's heart flutter “Ahh.. she is so cute..” his inner voice said. 

The flight had already taken off. They were in the middle of the sky. Maya was sleeping  soundly and Arjun was watching a movie. Just then the flight attendant approached them.

“Sir, do you need something?”

“No thank you” Arjun replied.

She then looked at Maya and smiled.” Your wife is really beautiful.” She said and went away. “Huh beautiful, and this weirdo.” He said when he suddenly got a glance of her. He suddenly froze and kept looking at her. 

“She is indeed beautiful.” His  inner voice said . And slowly a smile grew from the corner of his lips . “Wait a minute.... did that flight attendant said that she is my wife...” he thought and his face became red as a tomato. He looked at her again and suddenly his heart skipped a beat. Just then she woke up and stretched little bit. This made her look more attractive in his eyes . Suddenly he threw the blanket which he got, on her face. She took the blanket off from her face. 

"What?... I know you hate me but this is to much.” She said with an annoyed tone. “Wow at last you came to know that I don’t like you much” He said and put on his ear phones. But deep inside, those words of hers hurt him “Am I doing too  much?” He asked himself. 

6 hours later, they had reached the airport of Venice. It was bright there. They all got a taxi and went to a house. It was their boss’s farm house. It was huge like a mansion. More than enough for the whole city to live in.

“Wow. That looks like mansion. First your house and then this. I wonder what work you guys do?” She said. They both looked at each other. “It’s a secret.” Jai said.

“But seriously, it looks like you both are a part of a gang.” She said . Arjun caught her hand and pulled her closer. “And what if we are?” He asked.

She smiled and replied “ I know you are not.”

“But what if we really are, will you start to hate us?” He asked with sincerity in his eyes.

She smiled and said.” No, I won’t hate you because you both are my only family now.” Arjun paused for a while looking deep into her eyes, when suddenly an image came in front of his eyes. It was Maya but, her hair were short. He blinked and snapped back again into reality. “What was that?” He thought. 

“Ok guys lets not be emotional anymore, let’s have some fun while we are here.” Jai said trying to change the mood. 

“Oh ya even I want some cloths.” She said 

“You both go I will stay here only.” Arjun said .

“Ok then let’s go Jai.” She said locking her hands around his hand. Arjun widened his eyes. He pulled them apart and wrapped both his hands  around their neck.

“I can’t leave you alone. You both might get lost somewhere. You both know right how low are you IQ levels are.” Arjun said and started walking.

They all were roaming around the city. All houses were close together, coloured with bright paint. It looked as if the whole city was bombarded with all the bright colours of rainbow. Bright sunshine makes the houses look even beautiful and bright. Rivers dividing the city in two halves. The place looked exactly how the Bollywood  described it in their movies. So dreamy and romantic that even a non-romantic person will become next Shah Rukh Khan ( A Bollywood actor:- further description not needed ;) ). Maya looked at Arjun, and at the place and again at him. The view was really soothing for her eyes.

 “Wow! A romantic place + handsome guy = dream come true for a girl” she thought, dreaming about coming for a honeymoon with him. But suddenly in her dream land Jai pops up with two ice cream  cones in his hand. Maya looked at him as if he had ruined her date with Arjun. But after looking at the ice cream in his hands she forgave him. “Here I bought this for you.” He said . Maya smiled and thanked him for the treat. He patted her head like she was a 6 years old.

This made her a bit confused. “ Don’t worry I am patting you because you remind me of my small sister. I used to bring her ice cream when we were young.” He said

“Ohh.. how sweet she is really lucky to have a brother like you.” Maya replied while licking her her ice cream . Suddenly his expression changed. “She ‘was’ lucky to have me.” He said. She gave him a confused  look.

“My whole family including her, died in a fire accident.” He said with a deep sad tone. She was taken a back. She slowly hugged him and said “ I don’t know if I have a family or not but, now I have you as my big brother.Jai smiled and hugged her back. He came back and asked her. “You like Arjun right?” 

Her eyes widened . “So my instincts were true. Maya I guess he also likes you. The way she sees you, it’s 100% true he really likes you.” He said. She blushed and kept her head down to hide her shyness. 

“What are you guys doing?” Arjun asked as he was away the whole while.

“Nothing much, just brother-sister talks you know.” He said 

“Ya looking at her behaviour for first time I had this doubt that’s she might be your sister. Because your IQ level are so similar.” He said trying to roast them but, it didn’t affect them a inch bit and they started talking completely, ignoring him. Now they both roasted him without even muttering out a word. Now this arrow hit his heart really hard which made him dumbfounded.

It was night time now. Maya was out side standing in the balcony looking at the night view of the Venice city. It was more prettier than the morning view. Arjun got a glance of her. He then went out and stood beside her. She looked at him gave him a smile. He looked at her with his usual expression and turned his head other side.

She sighed and turned towards him. “See I don’t know how my personality was before but, for now I am the person who can’t keep her feelings hidden for too long.” He gave him a confused look. “I Like you” she said looking deep into his eyes.

His heart skipped a beat. His ears turned red.”Oh your ears. They became red.” She said forwarding her hand towards his ears, gently pinching them and said. “It’s cute.” She smiled and went away. He froze there itself like a statue. And suddenly, a tingling feeling came from his stomach.
