Amanda POV:
After an uncomfortable ride filled with such awkward silence, we walked over to the dock where the charter was. The captain peeked his head out from inside the boat and greeted us with a warm smile.
"My name is Charles. How may I be of assistance to you both?" he asked.
"We have dinner reservations at 9 o'clock," I responded.
"Come along then! I wouldn't want you to miss out on the delectable meals that await you. Are you guys married?" he asked.
I laughed as I looked over at Anthony's face which was emotionless.
"We're just friends," I said.
Charles held his hand out for me to grab on to as I stepped into the boat. Atleast someone was being a gentleman.
"What's your name if you don't mind me asking?" he questioned.
"It's Amanda," I responded.
"Amanda. You know I once studied latin and the meaning of your name suits you beautifully. It means worthy of love. Young man I hope you're cherishing this wonderful woman that's latched to your side. Shower her with unconditional love because she's deserving of it," he said as he smiled back at me.
"Appreciate ur advice bur she gud mon," he responded coldly then buried his head in his phone. The driver looked across at me, shook his head then started the engine.
"How long were you studying Latin for?" I questioned in hopes to ease the awkwardness.
"I did a online course for a year. Main reason being that I enjoy interacting with people from all over the world. So I dedicate my time in learning different languages. I'm so far fluent in Spanish, French, Latin and Japanese," he answered.
"That's very impressive! You're definitely over qualified for this position. How long have u been doing this commute?" I asked.
"If my memory serves me right, it would be fifteen years. The reason I enjoy this position is because I'm the first and last interaction with our guest. I'm responsible for making sure everyone look forward to coming back over and over again. As you could tell I might be 67 years of age but I'm a man of charm and genuine actions. I love to end every interaction on a great note," he said with a smile.
"You look damn good for 67. What you be drinking?" I asked jokingly. He laughed as he aligned the boat along the side of the dock.
"Have a great evening Amanda and your guest. I'll be here when you're ready to head back over. If you don't see me just give me a call using that telephone over there," he said then pointed in the direction of where it's located.
He once again held my hand to assist me in exiting the boat. I whispered a thank you and walked off into the direction of the stone path. It was absolutely beautiful! There were little lights hidden in the hedges that luminated the pathway leading to the main area. It was my first time setting foot onto this island and it was already leaving me in awe. As you walked along the winding path, the sound of the waves delicately kissing the sand and the euphonious sounds of jazz music set the perfect tone for a lovely evening. The music that played was by Grover Washington and Patti LaBelle - The Best Is Yet To Come. A song that I grew up hearing my mother play every sunday evening.
"So way yuh haffi talk up to de man so fah Amanda?" I heard behind me.
"Way wrong wit dat? Wahppen yuh jealous?" I stated then walked off. He mumbled something but I could fucking care less.
