The Married Life of Chad and Meg

Good Night, Kristen

Summary: Kristen has trouble getting to sleep.

Meg had just tucked Idina into bed.

"Good night, Idina. I love you" she said.

"Good night, Mummy. Good night, Daddy" said Idina.

Chad kissed her on the cheek and said "Good night, Idina".

"Where's Kristen?" said Meg.

Sure enough, Kristen was in the corner of the room instead of in bed.

"Still up" she said.

"We already said good night, Kristen" said Meg.

"Come now. Back to bed" said Chad taking Kristen's hand.

He led Kristen to her bed and she climbed in without being told.

"That's it, Kristen" Chad whispered.

"Good girl. Here's your pink rubber elephant. And Idina, here's your blue rubber elephant" said Meg.

"And I put two glasses of water on the table in case you get thirsty" said Chad.

"Thank you" said Idina in her cute high voice.

"Good night, girls" said Meg.

She and Chad crossed the hall and got into bed themselves.

At some point, Kristen couldn't sleep. She picked up her glass of water and tried to drink from it.

Instead, she spilled water all over her fairy pajamas. 

Idina woke up and laughed. She thought Kristen looked silly with wet pajamas.

Meg and Chad overheard the noise and came in.

"Idina and Kristen? When was that splash?" said Meg.

"Still up" said Kristen. 

"Oh, Kristen. Your fairy pajamas are soaked, little one" said Chad with a tiny laugh.

"You'll have to wear your cupcake pajamas instead" said Meg.

She opened a drawer and took out a pair of pajamas that was green and had pictures of cupcakes all over it.

"First the bottoms. Then the top" said Meg as she helped Kristen dress.

Then Kristen got back in bed.

"These go in the laundry" said Meg exiting the girls' room.

Chad stayed behind and kissed his daughters good night.

"Lullaby and good night, my little ones" he said.

After the parents left, Kristen tried to sleep again. 

But when she laid down, crumbs fell from the front pocket of her pajama shirt.

Kristen reached into her pocket and pulled out a cookie that she forgot. A bite was already taken from the cookie and a red jelly squirted from it onto Kristen's shirt.

In Meg and Chad's room...

"Well. That should be the last we see of those girls tonight" said Meg.

Chad laughed and said "Good night, Meg".

"Good night, Chad" Meg said back.

They were about to kiss each other good night, but Kristen trotted in and said "Still up".

Chad got out of bed and said "Straight back to bed, Kristen".

"It's easy. Just follow the trail of cookie crumbs" said Meg leading the kid back to her room.

Idina was also out of bed laughing at how crummy Kristen's bed was.

"Idina. Back to bed" said Meg.

"Yes, Mummy" said Idina climbing back in bed. 

"Ew, Kristen. No wonder you're still up. Your bed is full of crumbs and your cupcake pajamas are a mess" said Meg.

"You better put on your halloween pajamas instead" said Chad.

He took out black pajamas with pumpkins on them.

"First the top. Then the bottoms" said Chad as Kristen undressed.

Then he helped Kristen into her halloween pajamas and back into bed as Meg put the cupcake jammies in the laundry.

"Think you can sleep now?" said Chad to Kristen.

Kristen nodded and laid back down.

Chad lovingly kissed her good night then got back into bed with Meg.

However, Kristen still couldn't sleep. The moonlight was shining through her window making it too bright for her to sleep.

Idina had the same problem. So just when Meg and Chad were about to turn off the lights, Idina and Kristen both walked into their room dragging their bed coverings over their heads.

"Still up" said the girls together.

"Oh, blimey. Here we go again. And with both of them" Chad sighed.

Meg put the girls back to bed and closed the curtains.

"There. Now you can go to sleep. Sweet dreams, girls" she said.

Then she went back to bed with Chad.

Kristen tried to sleep, but the ticking of the alarm clock kept her up.

She decided to handle this herself and put the clock into the toy box.

That worked, but on her way back to bed, Kristen stepped on a sticky substance and her pajama pants fell off. Then a fly flew in through the open window.

Kristen walked back into Meg and Chad's room.

"Still up" she said.

Meg groaned and was about to sit up.

"Now, it's alright, sweet. I'll take care of this. You get some sleep" said Chad.

"Thanks, Chad" Meg yawned.

Chad turned on the light and put his glasses back on so he could see his half naked daughter.

"Where are your pajama bottoms, Kristen?" he said.

Kristen looked down at her bare legs then pointed in the direction of her room.

The first thing Chad did was shoo away the fly and close the window. 

Then he found Kristen's pajama pants on the floor.

"There are your pajama bottoms" said Chad.

He tried to pick up Kristen's pants, but the sticky substance turned out to be...

"Oh dear! Cherry flavored night-crawlers? You are going to run out of pajamas, Kristen" said Chad.

He took out another pair of pajamas and said "Here. Put on your confetti pajamas. I think I know how to get you to sleep".

Kristen did as she was told and got into bed.

Chad sat down next to her and sang her to sleep.

Kristen still didn't want to admit she was tired, but Chad's beautiful lyrics and soft voice put her to sleep right away.

Good night, Kristen.
