IS IT TOO MUCH, VI?

The girl talking groans when she gets no response. "I get it with your boyfriend, but focus on me!" She may sound self absorbed, but this is her first day we are talking about. A head pops into the screen of the facetime and looks the girl up and down. "It's cute, but who are you trying to impress?" The girl who originally asked the question drops the outfit and turns to her closet to see what her other options are.

"I'm not saying you shouldn't wear it, Spence, but you've gone to so many schools what makes this one so different?" The girl in her closet heard this and turned back to the girl on the call, who is called "Vi." Vi speaks again, her voice clear and her smile wide. "You are Spencer Moore and you will be fucking amazing, you already look hot as shit." Spencer smiles and blushes. "Shut up."

As she said, this is Spencer Moore. She is a 15 and a half year old African-American-Columbian girl from Sherman Oaks California. It's her first day at her newest school, and she's hopping in her sophomore year. Yikes, many people probably made friends already. That must suck Spencer. And I am The Rock. Yes, the one and only. You may know me from wrestling, or more likely, from acting. Now you may be wondering how I, the best wrestler and actor, is narrating this tale?

It will all make sense later, I promise. She finally finds an option she likes, and it isn't too much. "Vi?" Vivian looks at the camera and nods. "Perfect for your first day, mejor amiga." She groans. Her mom is always forcing her to practice Spanish, as it is her mom's native language. One year she asked her if she could try out French. It's safe to say, it didn't go over well for her.

Her story all starts when her parents, María and Eli, moved to California in April of 2002. Not a super chill time to be a brown person in California, but they lived how they had wanted too. Her dad worked at a paper printing company before finally getting his degree in Engineering. While he wasn't overworking himself, he made the most of his time hanging out with his girls. Which mostly meant watching his favorite sports, or playing some version of a sport with them. Spencer worshiped her father.

And while her father was gone a lot, he had always told her "Just remember, just because it is a "boys thing" doesn't mean you can't do better." That is very true, I know a lot of women who could beat me in wrestling in seconds flat. Spencer took that to heart and played as many sports as she wanted to, and she was so naturally skilled at them all. Many teams asked her to join thiers even at a young age, and she would accept zero. She just liked sports because it was fun for her.

But quickly, it started to go downhill for Spencer. She was sitting at dinner, her favorite, when her dad announced that they would be moving. To Maine. It was all the way across the country, and Spencer couldn't handle it. Her anger got the better of her, so when they did end up moving, she cut off all contact with her friends. "She wasn't going to be seeing them ever again, so why would she talk to them?" Jeez, kind of harsh Spencer.

But she didn't care. As soon as her parents said they were moving again, a few months later, she cut off contact again. By their fourth move within the year, she stopped trying to make friends. She also stopped unpacking her boxes, and only unpacked the things she needed. She started to live a very bleak life, even at the young age of 14. So her parents took her to a therapist against her will, and the therapist diagnosed her with anxiety.
