Mabel stared up at the sky as she fiddled with the fork in her hand, her cake left untouched on her lap. Dipper was back there, talking to Ford. "These are sensitive matters Mabel." He had said "You don't need to hear about them". Yeah right.
Her nails were raw from biting and the skin on her arms was red and irritated from scratching.
She pulled the sleeves of her jumper further down over her wrists to cover it.

"Hey" a voice called behind her.
Her heart raced as she turned to find Pacifica Northwest looking down at her with a small smile.
"Why are you hanging out here all alone? The party's still going inside."
She slid down the wall to sit next to Mabel on the grass. They were seated around the backside of the mystery shack. It was a sunny day without a cloud in sight and the trees were still and silent.
"Too loud."
Mabel replied as she stared out at the forest.
"Okay."
Pacifica Answered.
"Are you alright? You're usually a the life of the party but today you seem...distant."
Mabel sighed and leaned her head sideways on her knees as she hugged them and turned to look at the other girl.
"I think Dippers going to stay here"
"What?!"
"Last year the day of Weirdmageddon Ford asked Dipper to stay here. Be his apprentice and help him with his research, he only rejected the offer so 'I' wouldn't be alone in California!" Her voice broke and tears started rolling down her cheeks as she buried her faces in her knees.
"And now Fords probably asking him again only this year theres no apocalypse to make him leave and he's gonna take it and I'll be all alone at home-" her sobs got louder.
Pacifica grabbed Mabel's hand and used her other arm to turn her face toward her own.
"You won't be alone. You're never really alone, you have Me, Dipper, Candy, Grenda, Stan, Ford, Your Parents! So many people that love you and are proud of you. And even if Dipper does take that offer- which I hope he doesn't because then he'd be a pain in my ass all year round-" that earned a small smile from Mabel.
"- He'll still visit you in California!! And so will I. I'm never going to leave to you behind Mabel!"
In that moment they were leaning on each other and their faces were a mere few centimetres apart, so close they could feel each other's breath. Just as they started to lean in... "MABEL"
Dipper ran around the corner and they scrambled away from each other.
"MA- oh hey Pacifica, didn't see you there"
Dipper became an awkward blushing mess as he started rambling about something to do with the weather.
Pacifica wasn't an idiot.
She knew Dipper liked her and to be honest she had decided to just ignore the problem and hope it fixed itself.
It's not that she didn't like him it's just that she didn't feel any romantic attraction towards him.
He was just that awkward friend to her.
And of course the fact that she had eyes for someone else contributed to the "let's not date Dipper" campaign.

"Hi Dipper"
Mabel said as she desperately wiped at her face to hide the fact that she'd been crying.
"Hey, is everything okay?"
He asked looking concerned.
"Yeah, Fine"
She replied, but her broken voice betrayed her.
"Have you been crying?"
Dipper asked.
Pacifica wanted to smack him. 'Yes obviously dumbass' she thought.
"NO"
Mabel yelped defensively.
"UH..... I mean of course not heheh. Why would you ask such a s-stupid question?"
She then muttered something about helping Soos  with something and rushed off.
Dipper turned away from watching Mabel as she ran and looked down at Pacifica.
"So..... um..... the weather sure is great today!? Heh heh."
Dipper stammered.
Pacifica lost it.
"You are such an asshole, Dipper!!"
She hissed at him.
"Your sister just ran off crying and this is what you decide to spend your time doing instead of seeing if she's okay?!"
She was fuming at his behaviour.
"Happy fucking Birthday."
She walked off in search of the other Pines sibling, leaving Dipper in Shock.
"What the fuck is wrong with her?"
He started to talk to himself.
"First she's a bitch, then suddenly she's really nice and flirty and then she curses you out on your birthday over-.....
Oh shit Mabel!!!"
He started pacing the floor, worried.
"Why was she crying? Did someone say something? Do something?"
He wracked his brain trying to think of who was talking to Mabel this evening. But every time he saw her she was either with him, or....
"Pacifica!"
He stamped his foot on the ground angrily.
"That fucking hypocrite!"
He ran off in search of the two girls once more to find out what Pacifica could have done to upset his sister.
Suddenly, his path was blocked by a tall young woman.
She had short, fiery, red hair, a black septum piercing, a face dotted with freckles, and she was wearing a Mother Mother hoodie.
"Dipper!!!"
She exclaimed as she strangled him in a bear hug.
"I haven't seen you all year!!!"
"Wendy!!! Oh My God Yeah!!! HIIII!!!"
She let go of him and frowned slightly as she looked him up and down.
"...Wait a minute..... Are you taller?"
"Haha Yeah I've grown a foot and a half since last summer!"
He replied awkwardly.
"How have you been, Wendy? I haven't seen you around all summer!"
"Oh I've been amazing actually! I got a job at the record store, chopped my hair off with my axe, and met someone!"
"That's amazing! I love the new hair!! Oh and you met someone? Who is he?"
Dipper asked, excited for his friend.
"Actually... It's a They."
Wendy replied.
" Geode! Come meet Dipper!"
She called across the room.
A tall person with fluffy, green hair and gold circular glasses came running across the room to them and landed next to Wendy.
She put her arm around the person as she introduced the two.
"Dipper, this is my partner Geode! We've been dating for four months now! Oh! And Geode, this is the nerd I've been telling you about!"
She ruffled Dippers hair.
"Nice to meet you Dipper!"
Geode said with a smile.
"Hi"
He replied.
"Wait a second..."
Geode looked up at their girlfriend.
"Didn't you say there were two of them?"
"Oh yeah, Mabel! Where is she?"
Wendy asked Dipper.
"I don't know she seemed upset and she was with Pacifica and I caught her crying. She ran off when she saw me"
He replied.
"Oh shit you walked in on her with Pacifica? What was going on?"
Wendy asked, curious now.
"What do you mean? I told you she was crying."
"Yeah but what was Pacifica doing?"
Wendy asked as if it was the most obvious question in the world.
"Why is that important? She was just sitting right next to her and they were facing each other?"
He gasped.
"Pacifica probably said something then! That must be why she was crying."
"Dipper..."
Wendy begun and shared a knowing look with Geode, "I don't think that's what happen-"
"I gotta find Mabel!"
Dipper stated.
As he ran off he called back to the pair
"It was nice meeting you Geode!"
The two watched him turn a corner and leave their view.
"So"
Wendy started.
"Who's gonna tell him?"
Geode cracked a smile.
"Don't say anything if he doesn't know. For the girl's sake."
They pleaded.
"Okie dokie!"
Wendy replied earning a smile from Geode.
