~Tony x Reader~

"Baby..." his voice cracks at the end, "Please pick up. I-I know my life can be a lot and I make a lot of mistakes...but I need you. Baby, please."

She didn't come back that night.

He thought everything was fine that morning. The day started out as normal...

"Good morning, hot stuff." Tony kisses her cheek as she walks by.

"Morning, handsome." Y/N bites her lip and looks away from him, but Tony is oblivious as usual. "I have a few meetings to attend to later, so you want see me much."

"That's fine, Capsicle wanted to have an important meeting later anyways." He saying, doing air quotes when he said important.

After the mentally draining meeting with the Avengers and Director Fury, Tony comes back to an empty penthouse. Not thinking much of it, Tony continues about his day in the workshop working on yet another suit...for Y/N.

He wants something that can protect the love of his life in the event that he isn't able to (aka he's dead, because there's no way in hell he'll ever allow her to get hurt if he's alive).

Around midnight Tony realizes Y/N still isn't back. Panic consumes him for a moment and he sprints to the living room asking Jarvis if she's back yet.

"She is nowhere near the tower, sir."

"Damn it." Tony looks out the window seeing nothing but the New York city lights. The slight vibration of his phone startles him and he quickly fumbles to get it out of his pocket.

Tony,

I hate doing this over text. You deserve better than a stupid text/letter for this, but I can't look you in the eyes and say what I'm about to say.

I love you. I do, but I can't be with you anymore. It's nothing to do with you personally. I'm being honest, Tony.

The problem is Tony Stark-billionaire playboy.

The things that come with being in a relationship with THE Tony Stark are too much. The death threats, rumors, headlines, galas, etc. It's exhausting.

You flirt with people to get what you want and it hurts. Those women are way more successful and prettier than I'll ever be, and because of that I know you could do better.

You should to be with someone who benefits you as Stark Industries CEO. Someone who thrives at galas, corporate events, and interviews. Someone who doesn't get insecure around all the women throwing themselves at you. Someone who doesn't struggle with showing up to public events. Someone who can love the public persona Tony.

Because I only love the Tony who has cooking challenges with me. The Tony who watches superhero movies even though "they're totally unrealistic". The Tony who stays up all night working on an invention because it's the only thing he can think about. Or when your face lights up talking about science or a new invention. The Tony that cuddles me to death when I'm feeling sad.

I love that Tony....the you only I got the privilege to see.

I love you and I'm sorry.

"I don't need or want anyone else, baby...please come back. We can talk this through. I'm not me without you." His sobs echo in the voicemail, making Y/N's heart clench.

She had lied about the meetings, rushing to pack as soon as Tony left. The doubts getting stronger each and every day until she couldn't take it anymore.

Her escape was impulsive, of course, her mind didn't want to fight.

Fleeing was the only thing on her mind after that night.

Two nights ago...

Pepper and Tony had both warned her about the effects of articles, comments, and posts regarding her and their relationship.

Y/N honestly didn't mean to read anything, just scrolling on Instagram (harmless in her opinion at the time) when she came across a post from a mutual friend.

The comments were humbling to be optimistic about it. They talked about her job, her looks, and how she was able to pull a man like Tony Stark.

The last comment was the final straw, a lady named Beth boasted about her wonderful evening with Tony and the amazing sex they had.

Y/N obviously knew about and accepted Tony's playboy past, but that didn't mean she wanted to be reminded of all the notches on his bed post.

And Tony didn't even know about any of it, she didn't have the courage to tell him about it.

It was all just to much at once. She could withstand a few comments here and there occasionally, but to see so many people agree...that was too much for her.

It's been a couple hours since that last voicemail, now he's just sticking to texting. Her thoughts have calmed and she realizes how badly she messed things up.
