At 17 years old, Funneh still didn't know a thing about swords.

If you lived in Angellitha Empire, you'd find this surprising. Anyone who knew Funneh knew she wanted to be a great guard someday. But her father claimed that "No lady should ever bear a sword."

So Funneh disliked being a lady.

But she knew swords were cool. And Funneh liked cool things

So on this day, when her father finally gave up on trying to keep her "ladylike", she and her brother immediately signed up for lessons.

Today was their first day. And not only hers. A bunch of her other friends signed up for lessons too. And not just sword lessons.

"I literally cannot wait for archery." Sora said, eyes wandering around the halls of the training building.

"Same!" Rainbow cheered. "I hope they give us cake at the end."

"Do you ever think about anything but cake?" Jaxx wondered.

"She doesn't..." Sighed Gold.

"Are sure you wanna take magic, girls?" Rainbow quickly said to Charli and Lunar. "It is the most difficult. Few people actually go through with it. And I heard a lot of people don't approve..."

"Since when do I care about...people?" Charli wrinkled her nose. She had never really liked most people in the Empire. The adults could often be rude and grouchy, stuck in their old beliefs. The other kids often called her weird as well.

Personally, Charli thought they were weird. After all, who wore a hot pink shirt with hideous brown skirts and stockings? Not to mention she shoes—horrendous.

She and Gold could agree—the girls in this town had questionable fashion choices.

Lunar, on the other hand, shrugged. "I don't really care. People are dumb anyway."

"Exactly." Charli smiled. "She gets it."

"Alright, students!" Called someone from the front of the building. "Archery students go with Lady Arista, Sword students go with Sir Angus, and Magic students go with Lady Annie."

"Annie? You mean the most powerful magical being in the empire?" Lunar gasped.

"And Angus is second-in command of the Royal gaurd..." Funneh stared in awe

"They aren't playing around..." Sora said. "Arista is one of the top archers in the Empire..."

"Well, we should all get going. I would hate to be late on our first day." Rainbow spun on her heel.

"See you guys in a few hours!" Called Gold as she headed off with Rainbow and Sora to the archery section.

"Later!" Yelled Draco as he, Jaxx and Funneh raced to the sword section.

"Buh-bye!" Waved Charli as she and Lunar made their way to the magic section.

...

"Students." Began Lady Arista. "I'm Lady Arista. Today, tomorrow, and throughout the year, I'm going to be teaching you archery." Her voice was gentle, yet firm in an odd sense. First I'll pass out your schedules..."

She continued speaking as she passed them out. All three of them got the same schedule. Every Monday, Tuesday, and every other Friday, they'd be here.

"So we'll be together all the time." Said Rainbow. "That'll be nice."

"Now, archery is more than just letting go of a bow. It takes concentration, pratice, perseverance, and confidence. Just like any other thing in life. Today is the first day, so we won't be doing any shooting. Now, if you'll direct your eyes up here..."

...

"Alright!" Shouted Sir Angus, hands clapsd into fists at his side, his voice yelling out to them. "Listen up! I am Sir Angus, and I'm your just instructor, so treat me as such! I will jot tolerate delinquents in my class! Now, take a schedule..."

The three of them, of course, had the same schedule.

"Good." Mumbled Draco. "I wouldn't wanna be alone with this guy..."

"Attention!"

Everyone stood up, backs straight and holding their breath.

"We will not be touching those swords today. If I had my way, you wouldn't be touching those swords ever. I don't trust any of you with them. But, I sadly must allow you too at some point. Now remember, sword fighting isn't just jabbing a sword at your enemy. There is strategy. Tactics. Focus. Much like many other things in life. It is not just stabbing!" He yelled again.

"Now, today we'll just be going over..."

...

"Good morning, my students." Greeted lady Annie, voice level and calm. "My name is Lady Annie. I am your magic teacher." Her eyes were closed, and she held her hands together in a praying like motion. "Please, take a schedule."

The papers floated into the air and landed into each students hand. Charli and Lunar got the same schedule.

"Ooo, nice." Commented Lunar.

"Now, my students, you may notice that while other classes have about 50 or so students, we only have the small number of 25. And that is alright. I can see that some of you can, and might, quit in the future

She opened one of her eyes. It was yellow.

"But, I do see that two people here will never do such a thing, no matter what life throws at their young little heads. And it will through a lot at them. But they shall never quit. Perhaps one day, they will surpass me."

She closed it again.

"Now. Students. Magic is not just waving a wand around and saying spells. It takes focus. Your heart must be in the right place. You must be pure, free of all evil intentions. Otherwise your magic...could act a bit oddly. And i'm sure it will, in the first few weeks."

"Some of you have magic in your blood, though your ancestors. Some of you do not, and that is fine. It just means you may get a slightly lower start. There will be no wand waving today. Instead, we are going too..."

...

The first lessons concluded at 2:00pm.

"Lady Arista was nice, Babe." Sora hummed, turning to Jaxx. "I don't think lessons will be too bad."

"Sir Angus is aggressive as heck." Jaxx huffed. "He said he would tolerate 'delinquents' in his class, so Funneh and Draco are gonna get kicked out."

"Hey!" They shouted.

"Lady Annie was quite...mysterious. In a good way." Said Lunar.

"Though, she did something quite...omninous. She said that two people would would get a lot thrown at them and life, and would still persevere, or something like that. Lunar said she was looking at us. It was kinda hard to tell though. She only had one eye open. And it moved around a lot."

"It was her pupil, not the whole eye." Lunar rolled her eyes

"Whatever." Funneh tossed her hair over her shoulder. "Do you guys all have lessons tomorrow?"

"Yup."

"Alright, we'll meet up at the same time and walk there?"

"You got it!" Shouted Charli, heading the the direction of her house, Jaxx following her (they lived on the same street.)

Sora and Lunar headed off a few blocks away, and Gold and Rainbow went into their house one block away from them. Until finally Funneh and Draco made it home.

"I'm going to take a nap." Draco yawned. "Wake me up for dinner."

"Mhm, see you in a bit, Draco."
