Chapter 14: Road trip

It was the ass-crack of dawn. Everything was still, and the silent morning breeze was rich with a touch of dew and grass. Birds have yet to rise and certainly, neither has any other human being, including Bakugou Katsuki, who was still sound asleep in the warmth of his bed. Little did he know, the peace of his Saturday morning was about to disapparate into thin air - that fate was decided quickly when a certain h/c-nette stood, hands on her hips, in front of his house.

Moments later, Bakugou woke up with a scream when something rolled through his window and landed on his bed - inevitably himself as well.

"Oh my GOD, Y/n!" he shrieked, after pushing off the bundle on him, which was apparently his childhood best friend. He scrambled off of his bed, grabbing his pillow for some sense of comfort. Now, bewildered and still half-asleep, he could only stare as L/n Y/n shoved his blanket off of her. He whirled around to ogle at his clock - '5:32 am', and let out a scoff of disbelief.

Well, this wasn't the craziest thing L/n has ever done, but after quite some time without her shenanigans, Bakugou realized he'd need to start easing up to them again.

Even if it meant waking up at the crack of dawn to do whatever crazy shit she was about to put him through.

Said female yawned, and stretched even, as she rolled around in his bed. Then, she lazily drawled out, "G'morning, Katsuki. How'd you sleep?" He dropped his pillow, sighing.

"What are you doing here?"

"I was bored," she tossed a pillow his way, which he caught abruptly. "And I thought maybe we could have a road trip-camp day thing or something, as a way to reconnect!"

Bakugou opened his mouth, about to object, but quickly ejected the thought, knowing it'd be pointless.

"But it's barely 6 am."

"So?"

He groaned, making his way back to bed, and falling back into it, with L/n laying beside him. His perfect sleep algorithm, after a few years, has finally been whacked back into its original mess, the way it used to be with L/n around. He was tired, wanting to continue his sleep, yet a small part of him was barking at him to get his ass up and get ready for this one hell of a road trip.

Just as he started to peel himself off his bed, L/n asked -

"Can I nom on your cheeks?"

"No."

6:45 am sharp, Bakugou was loading their luggage into his car boot, eyes still stinging. As he hammered down the car boot, Y/n came bouncing out of the house, a sling bag hanging by her side, shaking as she hurtled over to him with puppy-like excitement, prompting Bakugou to hold out his arms - just in case the clumsy female crashes down onto the pavement - hoping he would catch her in time if she did.

Thankfully, she avoided it and just clambered up onto his back, exclaiming, "We're off to an adventure! After 2 long years, my old soul now needs refreshment!"

He huffed, balancing her on his bulky back, saying, "If you fall, I'm not catching you, dumbass! Have your brain cells finally rotten away completely or something -"

"Guess who's here to crash your road trip!"

Before he could finish his scolding, a tremendously loud (and familiar) yell led the duo to simultaneously turn towards the house, where they found Bakugou's parents, dazzling at their front door steps. Mitsuki was rocking her purple denim jacket over a white Nike shirt, which tucked snuggly into her beige short pencil skirt, while Masaru had on a similar blue denim jacket, white Nike shirt and blue baggy jeans.

Y/n realized, matching outfits... Slay.

With painfully large baggage swinging from Mitsuki's arms, she gave her son - who was having an intense eye spasm - a glistening grin. "I'm still young at heart; we'll be joining you on this trip." Masaru showcased his usual shy smile, "Sorry Katsuki, Y/n, I hope you're okay with this. I tried to stop her..."

What followed was an incoherent string of apologies and courtesies that only stopped when Mitsuki barked out, "Enough chatting, hit the gas, champ!"

"Oi hag, I never -"

Before anyone could stop her, all four were whisked into the car - a disgruntled Bakugou in the driver's seat, Y/n in the passenger seat, and the parents cosily up in the back.

Bakugou was still twitching when Mitsuki kicked his seat with her foot, already breaking out the snacks, "What are you still doing here? Hit the road! Don't you know how to drive?"

Y/n lost it at that, prompting Bakugou's hair to blow up. "Oh, shut your trap or I'll drive you hags straight to your graves!" Mitsuki batted her eyelashes innocently, downing the steaming coffee in her flask.

"Isn't that a bit too early? I'm barely 50."

The mother-son duo continued bickering, playfully this time, to avoid anyone else's hair from blowing up. Though the trip had a rocky start, Y/n couldn't help but sink into her seat, sighing in contentment.

A few hours had passed before Mitsuki asked -

"By the way, where are we going?"

It was then that Bakugou almost sped off-road towards the nearby cliff's direction. It took a while for both Masaru and Y/n to help avoid their possible deaths by calming down the hothead. And right after, their journey plan was revealed:

They were going to head all the way to the rural areas, hence the road trip. Then, an adventure in the woods would be set into motion, a smoking barbeque would then follow for the evening. A mountain climbing session would be launched the next morning and finally, they'd head home in the afternoon.

Mitsuki found herself leaping by the end of it, her eyes glinting as she beamed at her son. "You can't be serious! I know you're on your way to being a real flashy pro hero and all, but this is way too much for an early after-party don't you think? Even for you, I mean."

As Y/n chortled, Bakugou let out a gruntle.

"You can stop being sarcastic. This is a welcome-back trip to celebrate N/n's return." Then, he added on, mumbling, "And you old folks were never invited in the first place..."

Y/n nudged him gently, shooting him a look, as Mitsuki's second 'ohh' sounded. Y/n was able to hear Masaru's muffled groan in the back. She grinned as she glanced up at her second parents in the backseat. "I wanted to reunite with you guys after being away for so long, I thought of a trip, so here we are!"

Now, it was Bakugou's turn to chuckle -

"Thought of that brilliant idea at midnight you mean." Y/n let out a puff of air, squinting her eyes at her, and nudged him again. He nudged back, now in a playful mood.

Masaru finally spoke up from the back, albeit timid. "It's a great idea for us to rebond, you come up with great ideas as always, Y/n." Said female beamed, showcasing light dimples.

Mitsuki laid back and tossed her head up. "So, what's for barbeque?"

As soon as food was brought up, Y/n began blurting out a stream of words about what she had in store for the family of three. With the father-son chefs and their glutton of a mother, the conversation topic quickly switched from small talk to rich cuisines from all over the world - when really they're just having barbeque.
