Dust exploded out of the rotting floor boards as I lurked silently across the room. I could smell the putrid corpses standing maybe ten feet away from me, if that. My knuckles clutched defensively around the axe I'd found outside. I took a deep breath in and on my exhale I stepped up from my cover.

My swift movements caught the attention of two Rippers, one started for me, the other not far behind. I stepped toward them and slammed the blade of my axe into the chest of the first, stunning him momentarily. The second one charged for me and knocked me to the ground. The second one hopped on top of me and viciously began snapping at my face. My arms fought against the Ripper's force, I could hear the first one start to crawl across the wooden planks picking itself up.

I grabbed for the switchblade I kept hidden in my belt and stabbed its neck. Cutting it's neck open. I closed my mouth as blood and gore showered my body. I didn't hesitate at the opportunity to pick myself up.

The axe was still lodged inside the other one's chest and the handle dragged across the floor. It shifted its weight towards me and began to lunge. The impact of the Ripper's weight forced me against the wall behind me, blood and ripped flesh dripped out of the disgusting predator's mouth. I was tired from the fight with the other Ripper and my arms were getting weak against the struggle.

"Aiden!" I panicked, "Help me!" My screams were shrill and choked. I kicked at the monster and the axe dropped out of it only making the zombie move in closer to me. The gore that oozed out of my opponent's mouth flung into my face as it fell to the ground.

Aiden bounded for the undead to slam his club into its skull. A loud pop sounded and a whimper escaped the defeated monster. Making me wonder if there was any humanity left once you turn.

Aiden rounded on me, his fists clenched tightly around his club; anger turned his knuckles white. "What were you thinking?" He bellowed down at me. "You know it's not safe to go off on your own. You could've got hurt-"

"I can take care of myself." I interrupted.

Aiden kicked a chair and the flimsy wood broke under his force. "Nadia, you can't. Why do you think you had to call me for help? " My name was spat out like venom.

"I said that I could take care of myself!" I went to turn to walk out of the barren room of the cabin to get anywhere away from him.

I pushed the door open and took a step in the other room. He grabbed my arm gently and spoke in a mumble filled with remorse. "You're all that I have left, Nadia." He took a breath, "You can't be so reckless. It's weak and I need you here." I turned to look at my older brother.

"It's okay, I'll be fine." I set my hand on his shoulder, squeezing it reassuringly.

"Oh," he looked at me and blinked as if he hadn't noticed the blood that drenched my clothes. "You need to wash up, I'll raid this shack for supplies while you do that... Manage to stay out of trouble?"

"Thanks," I mumbled annoyed and started for the bedroom, maybe the previous owners had clothes roughly my size.
