Chapter 3

FIVE MONTHS AGO

I arrive at the hotel for the party at exactly 6:50 accompanied by Martin. Mum is dressed to kill as always but she seems uneasy since she's on her phone and next to her is Mike. Both of them don't seem okay.

My eyes scan around but no sight of Alicia, Jake or Alex.

"Excuse me." I say to Martin walking towards Mum.

"Where's Jake and Alicia?" I ask as mum keeps on dialing who knows who.

"None of them are answering their phone." That's Mike. "Alex's phone is on voicemail."

I dial calling all three of them. None of them can't be reached.

"Jake just called me like several minutes ago, asking about Alicia's cousin-" I'm not even done talking when...

"Then call the damn cousin!" Mum is quite angry.

I dial Betty's number and when I'm almost calling her, Alicia's Name ID fills my entire screen. She's calling and immediately I answer.

"L- Li- Liv- " She's crying.

Why is she crying?

"Alicia? Where are you? We're all-" I shut up before spilling the surprise.

"I'm in the hospital- it's.." she sobs.." it's..Ale..it's Alex-"

"Wait wait wait wait. Hold on." I can't quite get her. "Alex? Hospital? What's going on?"

"National Hospital." And the line goes dead.

"What does Alex and hospital mean?" That's mom.

"Alicia says Alex is in the National Hospital."

"My baby." Mum sighs in fright as she rushes away. Mike and I follow her straight to the parking lot. Mike offers to drive and off we leave for the hospital trying to call Alicia whose phone is off.

Jake's phone is ringing but no answer. This is one of the reasons why I hate my brothers. I called Alex earlier to accompany me shopping but he didn't respond. Thank God Jake obliged to my call but now he's not. In no time, we're at the National Hospital and straight at the reception where Alicia is helplessly crying.

"What's going on? Where's Alex?" That's mum.

"It's- it's my- it's my fault-" she sobs painfully.

"Your fault? " Mum embraces her as she painfully cries.

"He's- he's in- he's in the ICU."

What?

Never have words been painful as such.

"ICU?" I ask almost crying, as Mike walks close to me.

"I betrayed Jake-" she says, Mike and I stare at each other in confusion.

"Why is my son in the ICU?" Mum raises her voice at Alicia, something she's never done.

Alicia is silent for a while as she composes herself.

"Alex and I- have been seeing each other- " mum wastes no time in slapping her.
