More Than Magic (Hermione x Male reader)

Year 4 - Never Change

"Okay, tell me again," Hermione said as we sat in the library to help Harry figure out the clue.

''Come seek us where our voices sound," Harry began.

''The Black Lake, that's obvious," Hermione said.

''An hour long you'll have to look," I said.

''Again, obvious. Though, admittedly, potentially problematic," Hermione said.

''Potentially problematic? When's the last time you held your breath underwater for an hour, Hermione?" Harry said as I already had a plan thanks to McGonagall being my mentor.

"Look, Harry, we can do this. The four of us can figure it out," Hermione said.

"Hate to break up the study session. Professor McGonagall wants you in her office," Mad eye said.

"Not you, just Weasley and Granger," Mad eye said as I stood up.

"But, sir, the second task is only hours away, and--" Hermione said but Mad eye cut her off.

"Exactly. Presumably, Potter and L/N is well prepared by now and could do with a good night's sleep," Mad eye said.

"Don't worry I'll see you in the morning," I said as I kissed Hermione's cheek and headed for bed.

It was the next day and I was standing in front of the Black Lake and I already figured out what kind of challenge this is.

"Welcome to the second task. Last night, something was stolen from each of our champions. A treasure of sorts. These four treasures, one for each champion... now lie on the bottom of the Black Lake. In order to win... each champion need only find their treasure and return to the surface. Simple enough, except for this. They will have but one hour to do so, and one hour only. After that, they'll be on their own. No magic will save them. You may begin at the sound of the cannon," Dumbeldore said as we readied ourselves.

Once the cannon went off we all dove into the water once there I cast the bubble head charm on myself allowing me to breathe. I had done a good amount of research in the black lake when I figured out it would be taking place here and realised there were only a few places merpeople could hide. I was swimming along and making good time once I got to the place I was headed I saw it ruins of and temple and 4 people tied down by rope. I swam over to them and saw two were Ron and Hermione guess Hermione is my treasure I saw merpeople below me. I saw someone approach me and saw it was Harry I used my wand to brake the rope that held Hermione down and then gestured to my watch to get Harry to hurry up. 

I swam up to the surface as I pulled Hermione with me and once we broke the water line Hermione regained consciousness. We swam to the wooden stand where people watched the water and cheered when they saw us emerge. I made sure Hermione got out first and she was given some towels as was I and once we were out it didn't take long before the next came out it was Krum. He had some girl I recognised as 5th year witch guess he must have taken her to the ball I saw that Flure was already here but she was not there when I was so I guess she must have forfeited can't blame her. I saw Krum look at me I gave him a nod of approval and he returned it I would have to have a talk with him later but for now, I needed to make sure Harry made it. 

The next one out wasn't Harry it was Ron and Flure's little sister and then soon after the time ran out and then a moment later Harry burst from the water and landed hard on the floor at our feet. 

"Harry!" I said as Dumbledore and Barty came over.

"He's all right. He's all right. Barty!" Dumbeldore said as harry coughed up water. 

"Go get him another towel," Seamus said. 

"I want all the judges over here now!" Dumbeldore said.

"You saved her, even though she wasn't yours to save. My little sister. Thank you. And you! You helped," Flure said turning to Ron after kissing Harry's cheeks.  

Well, yeah, a bit. Ron said as Flure giggled kissing his cheek too.

"Harry!" Hermione as we got to him.

"Hermione!" Harry said.

"Not bad Potter not bad at all," I said.

"You too Y/N," Harry said we smiled at one another.   

"Are you all right? You must be freezing. Personally, l think you behaved admirably," Hermione said giving Harry her towel. 

"l finished last, Hermione," Harry said.

"Next to last. Fleur never got past the Grindylows," I said.

"Attention! Attention! The winner is Mr L/N... who showed innate command of the Bubble-Head Charm," Dumbeldore said and almost everyone cheered.

"Good job," Harry said.

"However, seeing as Mr Potter would have finished first... had it not been for his determination to rescue not only Mr Weasley... but the others as well, we've agreed to award him... second place..." Dumbeldore said. 

"Second place! Well done!..." I said.

"For outstanding moral fibre!" Dumbeldore said.

Later we are all heading back to the castle for a celebration since the two champions from Hogwarts just took the top two spots in the tournament. 

"You two just can't do wrong can you," Hermione said.

"Hey I won fair and square Harry is the one who ran out of time," I said.

"Fair enough,"  Hermione said as I pull her into my side. 

"I'm still trying to figure out how you know where to go," Ron said.

"Well when I found out that the task was going to take place in the black lake like any reasonable person would I did some research," I said.

"What did you find," Hermione said.

"Well other than a village of Merpeople not much but since it was a village I figured there must be some record of it somewhere so I went through every book that was related to it and well all I could find was a group of swimmers went missing in the east of the lake so I headed that way," I said.

"Never change," Hermione said.

"Promise," I said kissing the top of her head.
