Cameron could hear the voices of the other guests down in the living room from the bathroom upstairs, he was leaning against the sink looking in the mirror trying to process everything that had happened. He sighed and splashed some cold water on his face then looked down at the pistol beside him, he picked it up and examined the weapon before he tucked it into his jeans and approached the door. As he opened it the wall light beside him flickered which made him frown, he then exited the room and walked down the long hallway. The floor beneath was wooden and creaked as he walked along, he approached the stairs and then felt a breeze on his back which made him shudder before he turned and followed it. He swore he closed all the windows. When the lights suddenly went out he froze as screams erupted from the living room.
"What happened?" Cameron asked with a panicked tone as he went down the stairs.
Oliver had the shotgun in his hands aimed downwards as he looked around. He reached out and flicked the light switch a few times and looked up at the bulbs that were dead, he then sighed and turned to Cameron.
"Powers out" he informed him as he walked over. "Here, take this" he handed him the shotgun then took the pistol. "I'll be back".
"Where are you going?" Cameron asked, frowning at him.
"I need to check this out" he replied.
Cameron looked at the shotgun in his hands. "Be careful".
Oliver paused in the doorway as he listened for sounds and then left.
Cameron sat on the couch with his head in his hands as he felt a cold draft creep up his back, he shuddered and clutched the shotgun in his hand as he got up. He looked down the other end of the living room to the rooms, the bedrooms were dark and he could feel his breath forming clouds in the air, he swore he heard movement but he couldn't see anything. He turned back and looked at the door. Everyone who had come over was beginning to split up and go exploring, Jeremy had walked off with another guest. It was only Cameron left in the living room guarding the front door.
Oliver held the pistol outwards with his phone torch guiding the way to the power box on the other side of the house - the wind was howling, and the trees swayed from side o side as he walked quietly across the yard. He found the power box and sighed with relief and walked towards it, he then heard what sounded like footsteps running nearby and he jumped and aimed the light and looked around. The pistol trembled within his hands as he looked across the darkness.
"H-hello?" He called out into the darkness but no reply came.
He turned back and ran towards the box and pulled it open, he used the phone light to try and find the circuit breaker. Behind him, a figure moved closer and closer. Oliver was starting to panic, he just wanted to get back inside. He pressed the breaker and the box sizzled as sparks flew from it. He switched the switch off then turned and took a step forwards. His eyes widened when Jeremy came charging at him, Jeremy's teeth were gritted as a heavy growl escaped his lips when he whacked Oliver in the face with a heavy object which made him stumble back into the side of the house. Oliver fell to the floor, he saw Jeremy approach and readied himself for an attack. Oliver stumbled to grab the pistol, as he went to lift it Jeremy slammed his foot into his chest and winded him. The gun dropped from his pale fingers as he looked up at Jeremy who was giggling. Blood was oozing from Oliver's lips and forehead, he didn't know what hit him but it was solid.
Oliver saw the knife come from his jeans and he began to panic.
"It's you" Oliver groaned. "You're the killer".
Jeremy stopped laughing and raised the knife and smirked. "You think?"
He thrust the knife down at Oliver but he lifted his hand and screamed as the blade went straight through his palm. Blood bubbled from the wound and sprayed across Oliver's face as he tried to fight back, Jeremy laughed loudly and tore the blood harshly from his hand and raised it again which made Oliver scream out.
Jeremy slashed his chest and then lifted his leg up and bit his lip as he stomped down on Oliver's knee, he felt the leg beneath him snap to the side and then smirked when the loud screams exploded from Oliver. Jeremy gripped the knife then got down on his knees over Oliver and began stabbing him in the chest while screaming out in rage.
Oliver tried to push him off but his screams only seemed to amuse Jeremy more, he kept stabbing him while screaming in a high-pitched voice. Oliver's body was twitching and he couldn't move, Jeremy pulled the knife out then pulled his t-shirt up and stabbed him in the stomach. Blood was pouring out of the wound and Oliver was crying out as he felt himself pass out. Jeremy grabbed his hair and lifted him up onto his knees, he wiped the blood from his mouth and stared down at him. Jeremy kicked him down and exhaled while moaning before he tucked the knife back into his pocket and stormed around the side of the house as the front door opened a bright spotlight came out and scanned the front yard. Jeremy looked down at Oliver who was still breathing, he groaned and hurried off, he didn't want to get caught.
He'll come back and finish him off later.
As Cameron came out into the darkness of the night Jeremy snuck back inside through the window he used to sneak out. He cleaned himself up and tucked his knife away for later then exited the small room and regrouped with the others without them noticing. Up until now, Jamie hadn't seen Jeremy, but he gave him a nod and a small wave. Everyone discussed plans and what to do if things went downhill. Jamie was holding a baseball bat in his hands while they all spoke, some of the girls were crying quietly to their friends. Some regretted coming all this way into the middle of nowhere.
Jeremy's phone buzzed and he frowned and looked down at it, he pulled it up and unlocked it. He smirked when he read the message saying his family had been slaughtered, he turned away and looked up and tried not to laugh as he forced the tears to roll down his cheeks. He turned back to everyone.
"Jesus," he said. "My family has been killed". Everyone stopped talking and stared at him. "It got fucked up," he said. "My whole family has been killed". He wiped the tears away and tried to smile while looking over the group. He was forcing out an act to keep himself undetected. "Excuse me, I'll be back" he walked off into the darkness of the house and found the bathroom. When he entered and locked the door behind him he started laughing quietly.
Cameron slowly crept along the front yard as he followed the pathway that would take him to the power box.
"Oliver?" He called out into the wind, the shotgun in his hands trembling as he walked slowly.
He turned the corner and looked down and made out the shape of a human slumped against the side of the house. He searched for his phone then turned the torch on and looked at Oliver's body, his chest was soaked in blood, Cameron couldn't make out where the wounds started but he was certain Oliver was no longer with him. He turned and looked around with the weapon aimed as he felt tears in his eyes spring to life and pour down his cheeks, his hair blew sideways as another gust of wind came gushing through.
"Fuck me," he said softly before he stepped back slowly while looking around. He then looked at the junction box and walked towards it, he extended his hand and when he flicked the switch sparks shot out, after he struggled to turn it off he heard a pair of footsteps approaching. He spun around and aimed the weapon into the darkness.
"Hello?" He cried out.
"Cameron?" Jeremy called. "Where are you?"
Cameron shuddered. "I-I'm here", he stepped closer to Oliver. "I found something".
Jeremy came around the corner and looked down at Oliver and gasped and rushed over, he knelt down and looked at Oliver (praying he didn't open his eyes), he checked his pulse then lied "he's dead. Come on, we've got to go back to the others".
Jeremy reached out and grabbed Cameron's hand and began leading him back towards the front of the house. Cameron looked back at Oliver with tears streaming down his face. They walked back inside and that's when Cameron addressed them all.
"Look, I don't want to scare anybody but" he looked at Jeremy who nodded. He turned back. "The killer is here, he got Oliver". The girls started crying hysterically. The others talked amongst themselves. "We've got to lock this place down tight until we can get some help out here" Cameron instructed.
Jeremy stepped forward. "What about Oliver's gun?"
"Fuck!"
"It's okay!" Jeremy spoke. "I'll go get it".
Cameron watched Jeremy step out into the darkness, he then turned back to the group and sighed. "It's going to be a long night".
