We've been on the road for 6 hours and the rain hasn't stopped since.
The droplets coated the car window, making it hard for my mom to see the road easily. The yellow line painted onto the middle of the road has faded and the bumpiness was created from cracks in the surface. I've been sat here surrounded by all of the furniture and knicknacks my mom decided to pack for our apartment in New York. Besides the occasional swerves, I'm quite comfortable with my blankets and my laptop because I've been watching anime. At my old school I was the only one into anime and basically anything I liked. Even though I had "friends" with similar interests they were all fake. I'm kind of excited for the move but I'm going to try and stay out of anyone's and everyone's way once the school year starts.
"Hey Kaiya?"
I hear my mom and quickly pause my episode and pull out my earbuds.
I wait for her to continue, as she looks back to see if I'm listening.
"Once we get to the apartment, in about two more hours, remind me to get the food in
first so none of it spoils."
I quickly nod as she looks back at me, and put my earbuds back in and click play, tuning out the radio station and the rain beating against the window. My mom and I have this weird relationship. My dad passed away when I was 11 and ever since, my mom and I have been ever so awkward around each other. I mean, don't get me wrong we love each other and everything, we just find our peace when I'm cooped up in my room.
It's currently 7:00 at night and since it's winter it's getting darker quicker. I look up to see pink skies with the clouds illuminating a misty orange. I pause my video and pull up my iTunes playlist and listen to Fall Out Boy, whilst the world around me dims into a dark abyss.

"Kaiya we're here get up and help me carry the food inside, and then we'll come back out and get the things we need for later tonight."
I looked at my mom whilst rubbing my eyes, and then I unbuckled and grabbed a few bags of food. When I stepped out of the car I looked up to see our apartment building. It was a tall skyscraper type building, towering the sky with its with large window panes and shimmer of the reflection of the night stars.
Following my mom into the structure, we were treated by a man by the name of Oscar.
Oscar was a tall dark man who was dressed in a dark green suit, who looked the age of Late 20's."Hello there ladies, welcome to Grand Walkers, I'm guessing you are new here aren't you? Well come this way, come this way."
I looked to my Mom as if this is really happening because this place is really nice.
"This is Xavier, he will take you to your room."
Xavier waved at me and quickly looked away.He looked to be around 6 foot tall, with dark brown hair, and a built but not too built structure, and around my age.
I have to admit that he is very attractive but I'm not looking for a relationship and plus, no one would date me because I prefer to be kept quiet and alone. My mom looked at me, "How about Xavier and you walk up to the room and I'll stay here with Oscar and fill out these papers."
Xavier and I make eye contact and both turn away as quick as possible.
"Yes, Xavier take this lovely little lady up to her room and don't you two fool around up there." Oscar said with a wink.
I feel my face getting warmer and nod scuffling my way to the elevator with out looking up.
I hear a voice, "Do you want me to, um, take those for you."
Still looking at the ground a shake my head softly, "No, I'm fine."
I came off so rude but I told myself no friends or even a boyfriend because I don't need anyone because they'll just leave me in the end.
He presses the elevator button while rubbing the back of his neck.
We both step in and we're left in silence because there isn't elevator music. The door opens and Xavier and I step out onto floor 14 and he leads me down to room 237.
"Uh, um, here's your room."
"Thanks."
"So where did you move fr-"
"Can I just have the key?"
"Oh.. Yeah, um here you go.. Sorry."
"It's fine," I say still not looking at him.
"Do you want me to show you around your new home?"
"No, I'm fine."
He rubs the back of his neck again, and I know I'm being rude but like I said I know he'll just leave me so I need to do what's best to avoid him.
"Well, I'll see you around okay?"
I look up at him and turn to the door and walk inside my new home, leaving him outside.I walk into a high ceilinged room, where across the room there is a staircase leading up to a loft. I go across the room and run up the stairs and the loft revealed an open space just right for me, along with a large window so I can look out over the city.
The dark floor paneling glistened from the light of the stars and moon seeping through the window.
I hear a door from downstairs open and close.
"Kaiya come here and help me put the food away!"
I rush downstairs and see her putting cans and boxes into the cabinets.
"Hey that Xavier boy is cute, you two should talk more."
"I'm fine."
"You need to make friends, people here are different and you should give them a chance."
"Okay," I say just so she might drop the subject.**********************************************************************************
It's later in the night and I'm up in the loft, which is now considered my room.
I'm laid down on an air mattress covered in a bundle of blankets while my mom is downstairs probably asleep in her room. The house has three bedrooms including the loft, two bathrooms (one downstairs one up here), a high ceilinged living room that opens up to a kitchen.I look outside the window listening to the city noise below.
School is starting soon, and I'm going to have no one...
Wait no, that's what I want, I don't need anyone they'll all just hurt me.I put my hands over my face and shake the thought from my head.
I grab an old teddy bear my dad gave me before he passed away and hold it close to my chest.
It's okay to be alone.. At least I have you.
