Dear diary, 7/1/1984
Life is fucking crazy at the momment. Let me rewind,
My name is Kate Jemima. I'm 16. I have 4 friends (including my cousin Jacob) and we call ourselves the outcasts. Why? Because that's what we are. We are the only friends we have ever had. I live in a small town called Whitecoast in California. It's a town known for a safe community but for us, IT'S HELL. I'm pretty sure that's why everything bad is happening. You see, a week ago, on June 24, Francis Dunstock (a boy who went to school with) was found dead. They said his body was found washed up on a beach. He was also covered in blood from being scratched deep enough all over his chest to make him bleed out and later die. Everyone ruled it as an animal but me and my friends didn't believe that. There was no way an animal did something that gruesome.
We did some digging at the library and found out that gruesome deaths like this have been going on for decades but, everyone just blames an animal or as some people say a sea monster. We were about to give up on the investigation when we found a lead. We found a paper that had been written in Greek and luckily (and oddly coincidental) my family on my dad's side is Greek. So, I knew the language pretty well. When I got done translating the document we figured out that many years ago my family made a deal with a siren to have her powers. In exchange when the firstborn child of the vessel turns 16 they will get the sirens powers while the old vessel dies. When reading this, memories of my dad came flooding my brain. He had DIED when I was SIXTEEN. Then it hit me. Just like the paper said, my dad died when I turned sixteen. I started to panic. Thinking things like "what if this was really true". I closed my eyes for a second and saw flashes of an event. Like memories that are scattered all over the place. In that moment I saw the truth about what happened to Francis. But, I must have been out for more than a minute because when I opened my eyes my friends were surrounding me and my head was pounding. Even though they were asking me if I was okay I knew I couldn't keep this a secret from them. So in that moment I told them the truth. That I was the sea monster that killed Francis.
