It's been two days since they first arrived at their new home. School starts tomorrow, so Ivy decides to get to know the town a little bit beforehand. She grabs her phone and earbuds, slips on her Vans, and heads out the big gray front door. She looks at her phone to check the battery percentage. Nine percent... She will be back soon, it's fine. After walking on the main road for about ten minutes, she wanders down a side street. Two minutes down the side street, she knew it was a bad idea. Her gut filled with guilt and regret. The moment she decides to turn back before something bad happens... She was too late.
She saw eyes of all color following her as she paced down the dark alley in an attempt to escape. Her thoughts started racing, thinking of worst case scenarios. She started running for dear life, sobbing out of fear. She trips over the curb, and quickly gets up and sprints back home. They finally get home, slamming the door behind her and locking it. He wipes away her tears, and turns around. Her father looks at her with a confused and rather concerned expression.
"What's the matter kiddo?" he says to his daughter, concern still written over his face. "Someone giving you a hard time?" he asks.
"No, I'm fine. I just tripped, and hit my knee very hard. It's okay, though," Ivy replied. "I'm just going to go get some ice from the kitchen. Love you, Dad!"
"Love you too," Dan replied.
Ivy retrieves a painfully cold ice pack from the freezer and took it up to her bedroom. She sat on her bed and snuggled up with her blue throw blanket. She grabs her black notebook and her special blue, sparkly pen. She hasn't used the notebook yet. Her mom got it for her three years ago, and she never felt the need to use it until now. Ivy has been writing songs since she was 12. It has been about three months since she has written any music. Today it felt right. Today, she had inspiration. She spent the next two hours writing a song that she became very proud of.
