I'm cold.
This was the first thought that entered Ruuka's brain when she opened her eyes. The only thing to change about her environment in the last 274 days was whether or not the lights were on or off, and whether the temperature was cold, or colder. She looked at the mark on her hand and winced. An elaborate tattoo, or, as she felt: a brand.

A man walked in, the same man that walked in nearly all the other days: short, fat, with a coat that had an embroidered logo reading: "Avestella Health And Sciences". He placed a hand on Ruuka's arm and smiled softly.
"You know why I'm here."
Ruuka nodded. If she wasn't restrained she could just kill him, break his neck, beat him to death and escape. Nevertheless, AHS knew exactly what she was capable of; after all, they made her that way.

It begins with an electrode placed on the mark on her hand, and several needles placed at key points along her arm. Once all set up, the lights are dimmed. Ordinarily, Ruuka's body would be forcefully bathed with spectrum for hours until either her heart stopped, or until six hours had passed. But something strange happened this time: as the spectrum levels rose and rose, her body began to expell it out just as forcefully as it was being pushed in. The bed started to shake, Ruuka began flailing violently, and an alarm began to sound.

- elsewhere -
A lone scientist sat in his office, pouring over notes, filing away data pertaining to the Incident. He notes a pattern that persisted throughout the incomplete but mostly understandable historical records; the Incident wasn't the first time that scientists had let their ego get in the way of ethics, and it was doubtful to be the last.

The tired scientist stood up to leave for the night, when, all of a sudden, a powerful explosion rocked the walls and made his head spin.

- lab -
Ruuka screamed in agony as her restraints shattered. She lunged forth out of her confinement and began walking through the lab with a twisted expression. These fuckers better start praying, she thought as she wandered the lab, her body rapidly pouring out spectrum. She fully intended to escape this hell, but not before she took a few stops. Following signs to the director's office, she calmly knocked on the door. It was opened rather quickly by an earnest-looking man. He eyed Ruuka and began to speak: "I'm not sure why you're here, but this facility is undergoing emergency evacuation and it's best if all patients evacuate toward the nearest safet-"
Before he finished his sentence Ruuka had him pinned to the ground with a hand around his throat. With no words to speak and tears in her eyes as she stared at the man she believed to be behind her kidnapping and torture, she held her hands clasped around his throat until his body went limp and his breathing ceased.
Ruuka got off of the now lifeless AHS director and took his jacket, and his last words, as advice, calmly climbing down the emergency stairs and making her way out onto Avestella's brightly lit streets.
