"Do I have to go?" Jess whined

"Yes of course you do, everyone is excited to meet you. Grey apparently hasn't shut up about it to Layla and neither has Lily to Mae." Rose replied

"Who?"

"Grey my sister Layla's 5 year old and Lily my sister Mae's 3 year old."

"They better not be annoying or I will walk back here."

"They won't be annoying and you wouldn't walk back to London anyway so get in the car"

"Fine I will buckle Isla (Rose's 6 year old) up."

3 hours later

"Looks like we are here" Rose said will pulling Isla from her car seat.
"Yep" Jess said staring at the huge house in front of her. The slowly walked to the door and found it open so they walked inside.

"Mum, are you home?" Rose yelled
"I'm right here." The older lady walking into the foyer said. "Ah You must be Jess lovely to meet you" She hugged her.

"Nice to meet you too Mrs Halt"

"Please call me Kaitlyn or Mum your choice."

"Ok Kaitlyn."

"Let me show you to your room" She said as she guided Jess up the stairs.

"What about Rose?"

"She knows where she's staying" They walked up the stairs and went to the end of the hallway into a modern grey and white bedroom with a huge bed in the middle.

"Wow"

"This is where my son would normally stay but I don't think he's coming this year."

"I didn't know you had a son, Rose never talks about him."

"We only ever see him New Year's Eve. He works a lot. I'm going to let you get settled in. Goodnight."

"Goodnight Kaitlyn." Kaitlyn shut the down and Jess collapsed on the bed with a big sigh. She then changed her clothes and crawled into bed.

There was a knock at the front door. As Kaitlyn opened it she was greeted by a tall dark haired man.

"Mum good to see you" he hugged her.

"Hi sweetie I didn't know you were coming I do hope you called"

"Why what's the matter?"

"Well Joshie, Rose's roommate was going to be alone for Christmas so we invited her and gave her your room to sleep in."

"That's fine I will sleep on the sofa in the family room. What's her name?"

"Jess I'm not sure what her last name is"

"Ok it's good to see you mum I'm knackered I'm going to head to bed."

"Goodnight"

Everyone was asleep except Jess. She was too anxious. She crept down the stairs, trying not to make a sound hoping that the Christmas lights in the family room would calm her. She walked in and just stood there looking at the lights. As she walked in Josh's eyes fell on her, he felt like he knew her from somewhere. But he couldn't think where at that moment all he knew was how beautiful she was, her blonde hair shining against the lights coming from the tree and her emerald eyes lighting up at the view.

"Are you Rose's best friend/roommate Jess or the grinch."
She jumped.
"Who are you"

"Josh, Rose's little brother nice too meet you."

"Jess, Rose's roommate, are you stuck here because I took your room"

"I offered to but it's not like you need any beauty sleep."

She could feel herself blushing "I'm sorry."

"For what"

"Well first I steal your room and now I'm sneaking around your house"

"It's ok and it's not my house."

"The lights look beautiful" she stepped towards the tree.

"They do" He said as he sat down on the floor
He patted next to him.

"So they don't see you much, that's what your mum said."

"Yea I recently broke up with this girl and she's really crazy about it so I don't have much time because I'm constantly being attacked. And I feel bad."

"Why, do you love her"

"No but..." She cut him off

"Then it doesn't matter."

"It does because I've been with her since school. And I didn't love her then but I stayed with her. I loved and it my sound creepy but I still do love this amazing girl. Her name is Jess, haha oh my god isn't that weird. Anyway her name is Jess Harris and she was my best friend until I moved away."

Oh my god I didn't realise until now Rose Halt, Josh Halt I don't know what to say. "What school did she go to?"

"London Secondary why?"

"Oh I know this girl called Jess Harris but she went to a different school?" Oh my god he's in love with me I can't tell him it's me yet can I? No I shouldn't it would be awkward.

"So why are you here and not with your family at Christmas toots"

"My family don't care where I am I was always the disappointment child. They yell and complain every time I see them." Her eyes started to water with tears "its horrible one time my dad said he couldn't stand the sight of me and I should leave before he hit me. So I did and I moved in with rose and my life had been great ever since." Tears started to fall.

"Oh Love its ok." Josh said pulling her into his chest. She shut her eyes and relaxed in his embrace. He shut his and rested his head against hers. Drowsiness took over and they both slowly drifted off to sleep.
