My grandmother had told me strong intuition ran through our bloodlines. She used to tell me stories about premonitions she used to experience when she was growing up.
One reoccurring one was about tall men who shared similar dark auras would lurk in the night. She referred to them as the shadows.
Everyone else in the family thought she was crazy except me and my mother...
We had similar experiences our selves so we could relate to her stories in some way. I always had dreams, about these shadow figures, and about death. I had seen my mothers passing before it even happened and it had haunted me for years.
Now I live with my grandmother, who's in her early 60's, and still shares her vivid stories with me from time to time.
One night she had forgotten to get the mail and asked me if I would walk up to grab it for her, I didn't mind. I loved going on walks around the neighborhood and didn't think anything of it.
Except this night was different.
Opening the door, I was met by Smokey. My grandmothers black cat. She preferred to be outside for some reason and very rarely came around the house unless it was dark out. Smokey purred at my legs as I closed the door behind me.
It was a autumn night, leaf's scattered the concrete beneath my boots. The weather had changed a lot over the past couple of weeks.
There was a wind chill that burnt my cheeks. I was walking down my block on the way to the mail boxes.
That's when I saw them.
There were other people out who had went to get their mail too. Shadows lurked behind them, some looked to be consuming them.
The street lights never seemed so dull.
It looked like they were being torn to shreds, body parts flying erratically in the dark night. I could hear thuds as they hit the trees...
The shadows were out to eat.
