A Different Life (Pendulumshipping)

"Ladies and gentlemen! Let's welcome our final attraction!"

The stage was that of ancient castle of forgotten kingdom. The castle has seen better days, yet it still stood proudly and defiantly, even with monster running rampage on its structure.

In one tower, stood a teenager with dual colored hair of green and red. His red eyes shone with determination and excitement.

Sasaki Yuya LP: 2300

"I summon Performapal Friendonkey in attack mode! And Friendonkey never goes alone, as with him, let's give warm welcome to Performapal Skeeter Skimmer!" A donkey and a mosquito-like monster dressed for parties popped out with confetti. "And I'm not done! I activate Double Summon, to allow another normal summon, and Odd Eyes Accel! Beautiful Dragon with Dichromatic eyes, take the stage! Come on, Odd Eyes!"

A red dragon roared as soon as it manifested.

"Let's go, Odd Eyes! Strike!"

The flame breath hit directly to monster across the clearings, owned by a bespectacled teenager several years Yuya's senior, with silver hair. Seeing his monster getting destroyed, he merely smirked.

Akaba Reiji LP: 3200 --> 3000

"Nice trick, Yuya." He praised. "However, if D/D Pandora is destroyed and send to graveyard, and I control no cards, I can draw two cards." The monster's body, which of a locked box, opens and two cards flew to Reiji's hand.

"Well! I can still launch direct attack!"

Akaba Reiji LP: 3000 --> 1500

"I end my turn."

"And this is my turn. Draw." Seeing the card he draws, Reiji's grin getting wider, which in turn making Yuya's nervous.

"I activate D/D Swirl Slime's effect to fusion summon. Two concoctions of the unknown shall perform a miracle. Let the world witness this rebirth! Fusion Summon! D/D/D Flame King Genghis!"

A humanoid monster armed with a sword and a shield that was as tall as itself appears on his field.

"Then I banish D/D Swirl Slime to special summon D/D Berformet from my hand! By Genghis' effect, when I special summon monster while he's face up on field, I can special summon D/D Pandora back!"

"Well, good for you." Yuya grinned, despite all the nervousness he felt. "But none of them could take down Odd Eyes!"

"They don't have to." Reiji raise one card and show it. "Raigeki."

Yuya screeches as red thunder strikes his monster. Eradicating them from field. Leaving him very much defenseless.

"Checkmate. I win."

The monster advance and attacks Yuya.

Sasaki Yuya LP: 2300 --> 0

"Aw, man." Yuya sighed as he jumped down from the wall and landed on his feet. "I thought I finally could beat you this time. I was so close!"

"You improved a lot." Commented Reiji, approaching him as the Action Field deactivated, and showing its actual form. An enclosed space with audience seats around the duel area. "It was just your bad luck I draw Raigeki."

"Haha yeah. Nuke. Always watch out for nuke."

As they exited the arena, they were tackled by a small body.

"Off, Hi Reira! Whoa, you're is it me or you're getting taller?"

The child just hit Yuya for the tease.

"Don't tease, brother-in-law." They pouted.

Yuya just laughed and ruffle their hair, with Reiji watch over the exchange with soft smile.

"Say, since I lost the bet, what do you want for dinner?"

The siblings look at each other, before nodded.

" "Hot pot, with super cold purin for desserts." " they answered in unison.

"Got it!"

It was a little tradition.

Every Saturday like a clock, Yuya and Reiji would have a duel. The loser takes winner home and cook dinner for them. So far, it was 10 to 1, with Reiji being in the lead.

Yuya want to beat Reiji more often you know. Not just for matter of pride, but because Reiji is a good cook. That tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwich are to die for. But he knows why Reiji seldom allows Yuya in his apartment.

No guarantee they won't have unwanted guest in form of Akaba Leo, Reiji's father.

One meeting with the man is enough to make Yuya wanting to keep OUT of LDS and AWAY from that man. He doesn't know why. It was ONE meeting yet he instinctively know that if it wasn't for Reiji and his dad, bless them, he would be behind the jail bars for a crime he won't even think of, much less do.

Seriously, what was that guy's problem?!

Maybe it was because his daughter, Reiji's younger sister. Akaba Yuzu has this weird fixation on him that made Yuya's hairs stood on their end.

He's dating her brother, and he has no interest in cheating, thank you very much! Please find single guy ma'am!

"Yuya?"

Ah, he was making face.

The Akaba-Family-Are-Crazy-and-I-Only-Love-You-Two-the-Rest-Could-Go-Hang face.

"Nah, it was nothing." Yuya waved their concern. "Say, I just rent this new DVD. Wanna watch it after dinner?"

"Sure."

Reiji know what was in his boyfriend's mind, and he really doesn't want to address it.

Thinking about his father and his sister give him headaches and just ruin his mood overall.

He can't wait until he reach age of majority and can claim custody over Reira. Then he can cut ties with nutcase he unfortunately shared blood with. Hopefully throwing in Restraining Order as well.

(An AU where Akaba Leo discover Yuzu instead of Syuzo, takes her in, and basically smothers Yuzu with affection to the point of neglecting the rest of his family.

Reiji is absolutely bitter that his father rather choose a girl who may or may not related to them than his own son. He is also unhappy with his mother who is using him and even adopt Reira just to reminds Leo that he is NOT a single father with one daughter.

It get suffocating to the point Reiji moved out the first chance he got. Only coming home for Reira, until he takes Reira with him because clearly, his parents are not in it.

Enters, Yuya, who found Reira when the two get separated at Shopping Trip, and offers Reiji a helping hand. It get to the point Reiji join You Show instead LDS. Half because Yuya, half to spite Leo. Somehow down the line, the two found more common grounds and start going out--as a couple.

In this AU, Yusho never goes missing for his duel against the Sledgehammer, and thus, Yuya never branded as Son of Cowards and You Show Duel School still prospering.)
