You groaned and reached across the table for your phone, feeling around until you finally found it. You cheered in your head and flicked open the device to see your painting of a red spider lily. Smiling softly to yourself, you made your way down to the ground floor of the building. Your formal black office shoes appeared in your view as you stepped into the elevator, the slow descent making you nervously drum your fingers on your suitcase. This week a few countries transferred into the building. With it, you acquired the role of their mentor and tour guide around the building. You were a nervous wreck, and having only had 6 hours of sleep hadn't helped your significant anxiety. You were embarrassed at how they'd seen you the past week.
You honestly wanted to make a good impression on them, and you had just fumbled the chance to do so. Sighing, you exited the foul elevator to set foot on the ground floor. You exchanged pleasantries with Jeanine at the front desk and waited for your new employees. About ten minutes had passed, and the first two had shown up. The two greeted you very timidly. Well, only Kazakhstan did. Finland grunted, nodded, and slumped on the sleek, burgundy couch. Japan stumbled into the room, distressed and tired, holding a tray of coffee. You jumped from the couch to help him down and provide assistance with the coffee.
"You didn't have to buy the coffee for us, Japan. We would've been fine without it," You rushed out, waving your hands around frantically. Kazakhstan agreed with you, nodding his head. "Yeah, man. You look burnt out." Finland just swiped the coffee off the table, took a sip, and shrugged helplessly. You and Kazakhstan just stared at him in disbelief. "Hey, it's free coffee. Not like I'm going to pass that up. It's been too stressful this morning." He stated and went back to sipping his coffee. It was break hour, and you all headed to the meeting room.
Japan walked around the table and sat in his chair, humming. Finland took a seat on his right, and Kazakhstan on his left. You began to explain the fundamental rules of the building and how you should manage the funding. Describing how the executives around the building write down the challenges and solutions took quite a long time, and you and the others found yourselves saying your goodbyes.
Over the next few weeks, you know more about them and their hobbies. Kazak (Kazakhstan) has shown great interest in boxing and fighting, while Finland has a vast and extensive collection of snow globes. Japan likes tea-making and has about seven tea-making kits. You laughed quite a lot at Finland's assemblage. Never would you have thought the cold, seemingly uncaring Finland owned dozens of snowglobes! It was amusing to see his expression. He appeared flustered and flushed and hid his face in his scarf. You all laughed.
You got a call in your office where everyone was hanging out. You answered the call. "Hello?" You questioned. A voice sounded from the other end. "Y/N? It's E.U. speaking." "Oh! Sir E.U." He cleared his throat and asked how the others were on behalf of the Organisations.
"They have adjusted very well, sir." You said. Japan hung his head from the back of the couch. He tilted his head to ask, 'Who's that?' You mouthed E.U. back. He let out an oh and resumed reading his haiku poem book. E.U. and you continued talking for a bit and eventually ended the call. Exchanging goodbyes, you slumped against again your spin chair and peered across the room. You looked at the digital clock. '10:57 Huh? Hm. Wait. 10:57?!? Shit, I finished work an hour ago!' You quickly packed everything in your maroon suitcase and put your coat on.
"Where are you going, man?" Kazakhstan asked from the cream chair across your mahogany spin chair. "I have to go to the art collab with Misaki!" You cried out. He nodded and told me to text that I got there safely in the group chat. Oh, you had also exchanged contact info. Exciting! You unlocked your car and drove to the location Misaki sent. Meeting up with her was hard, considering she was quite the artist. Apologizing to her, she said it was fine. You two hung out together, making commissions and getting extra cash.
You separated close to midnight, and you were exhausted. You inserted your keys into the house door lock and turned the knob to step into your living room. The house lights flicked on immediately and followed your descent up the stairs. Inside your room, moonlight shined upon the floor, giving it an ethereal glow. You changed into a baggy T and some booty shorts.
Reaching into your liquor cabinet in the closet, you pulled out some Pinot Grigio and popped it open. You set your wine glass and the bottle out on the table on the balcony. You poured yourself some wine, your hair flicking around your face as you took a sip. It was a full moon tonight. You could hear shouting down the street, so you leaned on the railing to get a better look. Squinting your eyes, you made out three faces. 'That... that's the other three,' You thought. 'What are they doing here?' They were approaching one of the houses on the block. Finland pulled out his keys and unlocked the door.
"Oi! You three!" You shouted. Japan jumped and swiveled his head in your direction. He looked confused. "Y/N?" "Yup." You said. Kazak was overjoyed. "Yes! We're neighbors!" He squealed. You smiled and said good night. They said good night back and disappeared into the light blue house. You lay on your bed and peeked at a picture on your side table. In it were your parents. The photo caught a moment in time at their wedding. Vibrant colors were splattered across the room, lining up with the feel of the carefree couple. You tried to reminisce about your baby days, but nothing came to mind.
Finally, you gave up and crawled into your sheets, falling into an endless slumber.
