The Falklands War was a ten-week undeclared war between Argentina and the United Kingdom in 1982 over control of the Falkland Islands, a chain of small islands just off the coast of Argentina. The conflict began on April 2nd, when Argentina invaded and captured the Falkland Islands. The British government dispatched a naval task force on April 5th to combat the Argentine Navy and Air Force before launching an amphibious assault on the islands. Argentina surrendered after 74 days of fighting, restoring British authority over the islands.
