There are psychic abilities that usually manifest as mental disabilities, and the medications for those mental illnesses make the psychic abilities exponentially worse.

Then there are physical abilities. These are specifically the shifters in this world.
Of course, there are some overlaps. We know nothing in this world is a clean-cut spectrum. Everything is a tangled web, a tumbleweed, a Venn diagram and there are far more than 50 shades of anything.
