No doubt by Lianne La Havas
"So what happens now?" I asked, flustered from the song we'd written together with our bodies. The sweet sin that inspired our clandestine meetings to continue...
"Now is far too far away, honey."
"So fast forward to the part where you tell me to sleep here while you go back to the couch...if that's what you're thinking?"
He propped himself up on one elbow to face me so I did the same. He kissed my forehead in such a way that I knew there were equal chances that he may make or break me.
"Get under the covers. I will too. We'll sleep."
"The moratorium on sleeping together is lifted?"
"One could certainly assume..""You're evading the question. Speak up."
"In terms of sleeping in a bed, with you? I think if we don't read anything into it, I'd like it very much."
I kissed his lips even if they spewed placating lies. He leaned into it regardless."Right. you should probably climb over me tho because you're on my side of the bed."
"What if I like this side?"
"I don't have many deal breakers, little one,but I'm putting my foot down. Besides, I think you know I've got solid upper body strength. I'll take you by force if necessary.
"Somehow I might like that, but I don't have any fight left in me."
I put a finger to his chest to make him lie back and, with all the grace I could muster, straddled him and rolled my entire torso past his face, arching my back to sit up again. I could feel a subtle twitch of his hips as he pulled away so that I couldn't feel him growing underneath me.
"Careful there, I wouldn't poke the badger...he's gotta return to the fold tomorrow and coffee isn't gonna be enough to rev his engine.."
"In 24 hours I'll be going into my sixth hour of working in the ER, so I guess I don't need my badger poked either."
He held two fingers up and growled at me. It was the most adorable thing he could have possibly done in that moment.
He pulled back the rest of the covers for me and I inched further away. I didn't want to hover too close as to suggest that afterglow cuddles were on my mind. They clearly weren't.
He fluffed his pillow and turned towards me.
"I am going to kiss your hand good night now."
"As you wish.."
I kept an arm's length distance from him and he pulled me just close enough to kiss the inside of my palm, letting his lips stay there for half a beat longer than I'd expected. The heat found its way into my belly again. Those goddam lips.
"Sleep well, kid. "
"Sleep better, Linny."
