Amelia dropped the metal pole and stood trembling and panting with both as she looked down at the man. He was definitely unconscious. Amelia looked at her sister who lay unconscious on the ground like the man. She noticed the wound on her neck and frowned as she saw a very distinctive mark. No. It couldn’t be.

“Vampire,” Amelia whispered.

She quickly hooked her arms under her sister’s and lifted her up. She was struggling as she dragged her out into the hall and dropped her as she saw the limp bodies of her parents. Amelia crawled over to her father and shook him lightly.

“Daddy,” she said quietly. “Daddy, get up… we’ve gotta go.”

She laid her head down on his chest and tried to listen to his heartbeat but couldn’t find one. She sat back up and looked at his face, his cheeks were no longer the familiar rosy color and his warm brown eyes weren’t open. His normally combed back brown hair wasn’t as neat as it should be. Amelia closed her eyes, wishing that she had just hit her head or gone to sleep. She turned her head to look at her mother with her eyes still closed. With a quivered breath, she opened them and didn’t see any movement. Amelia moved closer to her mother and gently tapped her arm.

“Mommy,” she said quietly as the tears silently fell down her face.

Amelia looked at her mother’s short dark brown hair and didn’t see any of the soft kindness in her face, she definitely didn’t see her mother’s eyes that her father often described to be as blue as the ocean on a calm day. She turned back to her sister and crawled towards her before sitting next to her.

“Bella,” she mumbled, trying not to cry out loud. “Bella, wake up… please Bella… you’ve gotta get up.”

Amelia nudged her and heard her sister take a deep breath. She moved the hair out of her face and nudged her again.

“Please wake up,” she begged and heard a noise behind her.

Amelia shot around and saw that the man was gone. She stood up quickly and looked around. It was too quiet. Suddenly there was a creak behind her and she shot around to see the man staring at her – No. He was glaring at her.

“Stay back!” she shouted trying desperately to pull her sister to safety.

The man pulled Isabella away from her and put her over his shoulder. Amelia started flinging her fists at the man in a blind fury as she felt the grief and anger take over.

“Let her go!” she screamed. She caught his nose and then his shoulder.

SLAP!

Amelia fell to the ground and clutched the left hand side of her face tightly. Tears were still streaming down her face and her mouth was open but still no sound emitted from her lips.

“Get up,” the man ordered as he took out his phone. “Stefan,” he said quickly as he held the phone to his ear. “We’ve got a problem.”

He looked down at Amelia and she glared at him through her tears. His brows furrowed into a fierce look as the other man on the phone said something that obviously displeased him.

“I don’t care what you’re doing! Get your ass here now!”

The man put his phone away and grabbed Amelia tightly by her arm. Amelia stifled a sob as she covered her mouth. She fought the sickening urge to look at her parents again.

“I said, get up!” he growled at her and dragged her to her feet.

“Please,” Amelia begged. “Let her go… she’s hurt.”

The stranger looked amused somehow. Amelia looked at her sister and closed her eyes as she saw her limp body. The door burst open and she opened her eyes to see another stranger. The other stranger looked at the two bodies on the ground, then he looked at Isabella, then at Amelia and then at the vampire.

“You’ve really done it this time Damon.”
