The wolf stalks
As the circles close in
The flight paths of the overhead hawks
The hunter close
Ready and waiting
Hunter versus hunter
But he is ready
And the wolf is wounded
The hunter will administer a lethal dose
From his .308 Winchester.
He's getting close.
His senses heightened.
Cortisol and Epinephrine rush
Through his body
Like water from a breached damn.
Hands shake
Pause.
.
.
.
.
.
.
His lungs heaving but slowing
Calming himself
He looks through the scope.
Will he miss?
Nope..His finger tightens
Inching towards the trigger.
He feels a flash of regret
Sorrow that disappears....
The wolf shouldn't have invaded the village
Stayed in the wildlife reserve.
Stayed away.
Rationalizing done
He poses himself
And raises his hands once again
Looks through the lens
.
.
.
.
.The wolf drops.
