Chapter 3
A half an hour passed and your heat was long gone by that time. You stood in the frigid night, the icy wind nipped at your skin but you barely felt a thing and you barely heard the commotion going on around you. Once your heat stopped, Jean called Colonel Mustang to report the death of the alchemist Scar killed.
Scar. A shiver crawled down your spine like bugs. He was gone but you could still smell the rich musk of his scent, how intoxicating it was, how it made your body pulse with need. You shook your head, banishing those treacherous thoughts to the depths of your mind. You couldn't believe you reacted that way to him, to that murderer. You gritted your teeth. Maybe the heat was a fluke, maybe you weren't truly reacting to him. Perhaps it was the alcohol in your system that weakened your heat suppressants. Yeah that could be it. Even as the thought came to you, you knew it was just wishful thinking.
You suddenly felt the gaze of the Colonel borrow holes into your skin, that was enough to drag you back to reality. The wind felt much colder than it did just moments ago and you were able to hear the commotion of the other officers on the scene. They said the deceased was a general by the name of James Wilson, a capable state alchemist who specialized in water alchemy. You watched as his corpse was covered and loaded onto a stretcher.
The Colonel then cleared his throat, you looked up to find a mildly irritated expression on his face. You blanched. He must've been speaking to you and you weren't paying attention.
"Now that I have your attention, let's walk through your report." He looked down at his notepad. " So you entered the alley to find Scar murdering the Water alchemist, and upon seeing you, he runs away. Am I correct?"
Both you and Jean nodded. You were surprised that the blond was following along in your lie.
The Colonel narrowed his eyes. "Without confrontation, huh. That doesn't sound like Scar."
"H-he was bleeding when we saw him." You blurted out. "He was probably too wounded from his battle with General Wilson to fight us."
"In that case, why didn't you use his injuries to your advantage and apprehended him?"
"Uh..." You looked away, mind scrambling for an explanation and coming up with none. You looked up at Jean and wondered if this would be the moment where he tells the truth. You wouldn't blame him if he did, the Colonel was his boss and he couldn't jeopardize his position just to protect you. "Well..."
"We were pretty drunk, Colonel. We didn't want to risk endangering anyone if we engaged him in battle." Jean answered to your surprise. Why is he lying on my behalf?
Roy grimaced. "Where did you go for drinks after work?"
"The 777 Pub, sir." Riza answered as she walked towards the three of you. "I was with them this evening."
"That's a 15 minute walk away from here." He turned to you. "What led you to come to this alley, did you see Scar walk through here?"
"Yes! Jean and I were walking to the Western Inn when we spotted a suspicious looking man in a hood. We followed him into the alley to find it was Scar."
"Was this before or after Scar murdered General Wilson?" The dark haired alpha asked. "If it was before then why didn't you act to save General Wilson's life? If it were after then why would Scar come to the scene of the crime twice?"
"Uh". Ah fuck.
"Your story is not adding up. I'll give you one last chance to report what truly happened honestly or I'll have no choice but to treat you as an accessory to murder." He looked between you and Jean. "The both of you."
