It was funny how much I hated the beach. I know, I know. What teenage girl doesn't love the beach? Well, me.
I sit comfortably in my beach chair, which is hidden beneath a pastel pink umbrella. I'm wearing my one and only bikini, which is a pretty shade of green to match my eyes. Beside me lays my best friend, Lacey. She's wearing a string bikini which is tied loosely, letting a little to much hang loose. "Jeez, Lace, way to attract the boys." I say sarcastically, sipping on my lemonade. She laughs and lifts up her milkshake. "My milkshake brings all of the boys to the yard," she starts singing. I start laughing, almost falling out of my chair. "Way to go, Lace. Are you actually going to swim or just watch boys swim?" I ask, sipping more of my lemonade. She shrugs. "I have a thing for half naked guys covered in water." she says, chewing on her straw. "I'd say that that middle aged man is more than half naked," I say, pointing towards a fifty-some year old man in a speedo. She laughs, and I reach into my beach bag for more sunscreen. Suddenly, Lacey starts smacking my arm. "Look at that beautiful creature." She says, pointing towards a boy walking across the beach.
He's tall and muscular with tons of tattoos and curly brown hair. My breath catches in my throat and I bite my lip. "Now he's beautiful," I say, staring at him. He runs his fingers through his hair and slowly walks towards us, heading to what appears to be a group of other boys. "Harry!" They all shout excitedly in unison. I watch as they all hug him, handing him a red solo cup full of what I assume is beer. "Sorry man, I'm not drinking tonight." Harry says, handing the cup back. One of them raises an eyebrow. "You sure bro? There's plenty to go around." He says. Harry shakes his head. "I'm good. I'm actually going to go for a walk." He says, turning to walk away from them. They all make a sad "aww" noise, but quickly move on as Harry walks back towards us.
As he walks by, he looks up at me and smiles. "Hello there," He says politely, waving. Lacey leans forward and I suddenly feel the urge to talk to him. "Hey,"
I say nervously. "It's a lovely day to swim, huh?" He asks awkwardly. I laugh.
"Uh, yeah. Summer is full of those." I say, trying not to sound too sarcastic. He blushes and pretends to gasp. "Sassy one, aye? I could've guessed." He says, watching me. I raise an eyebrow. "Oh really? How so?" I ask. He brings his hand to his chin as if he's thinking. "Well, you're on the beach and not in the water
first of all. If you were average, you would be in the water competing for that football players attention like those blondes are right now. You also have sunglasses on in the shade, proving that you like to observe other people rather than join them. You're sassy, feisty and stubborn, aren't you?" He asks. Lacey turns to me, looking at me with a shocked expression. I gulp. "Is that a bad thing?" I ask. He shrugs. "How about you go out to dinner with me and we'll find out?" He asks. I try to hide my excitement. "How does ice cream right now sound?" I ask. He smiles. "Sounds perfect."
