It's been barely two days since Ghost began her college journey. Her classes are easy so far, and she's been loving the campus. She only has classes two days a week, but she always keeps herself busy with all the work she's been putting on herself.
With all the pros, college has its share of cons.
Ghost would have to physically hold herself to stop all the repetitions from falling out of her mouth. She would chew on her lips to hold back her urge to sing back the tune she heard on a new TV show she watched. Not only that, but she wouldn't dare even show any signs of the rapid movement she was so used to. She always felt like it would make her look bad.
Lucky for her, the walk back to the sorority house was lonely, leaving her plenty of time to ramble out what she needed.
Walking back home, Ghost was watching each step she took to ensure she wouldn't slip on a chunk of ice on the sidewalk. Her mouth opened and closed, sounding out crisp popping sounds she was making with her lips. If there was anyone around her to judge, she wouldn't have known. Moving on from popping, she started to repeat different words she heard her peers say during the day. Well, only the ones she thought were funny, like that word she didn't know what it meant but had like five syllables.
Stopping at the final crosswalk to the sorority house, she thought back on the one rule Jess gave her personally. Don't answer the phone. Apparently, they had a spam caller problem that Barb didn't want Ghost to know about. That didn't make sense; was what the caller said really that horrible? I mean, Claire looked horrified, but you would think she would be used to it.
Ghost really wanted to know what the caller would say. Just out of pure morbid curiosity.
Opening the sorority house door, the same chime sounded, which Ghost mimicked immediately. The whole house was empty as the girls had later classes than Ghost. So for maybe two hours after class, she would have alone time.
Ghost begrudgingly walked up the stairs to her room, her feet already sore from all the walking. She swung open her door, letting out a long groan while dropping her bag onto the ground. She plopped onto the still-bare mattress that only held two blankets and a pillow. Wrapping the blanket around her, she cuddled up to take a short nap before tending to her school work.
She probably got a minute into her nap before the high-pitched shrill of a dial phone ringing woke her up. The ringing continued even after Ghost took a second to see if she should answer.
She was told not to answer the phone, no matter what. Jess and Barb obviously don't want her involved in their sorority problems. She should respect that, but now she was walking down the staircase to answer the phone.
The ringing still continued to blare out like a siren, which stood out in the quiet house. Ghost stood stiff in front of the phone, shaky with guilt. God, she hopes no one catches her, especially not Barb.
She snatched the phone off the receiver and slowly brought it to her face. She only heard the faint sound of hard, heavy breathing. It was ragged and heavy, like the person had just run a race.
"Hello?" Ghost asked sweetly. She secretly hoped her niceness would lessen any harm the caller wanted to do. If they even did.
No response. Only a mutter of a voice. The caller was trying to think of what to say, as Ghost had confused them. After a few seconds, the caller was quick to speak.
"Bbbilly doesn't know you." The caller spoke quietly. Their voice was deep, scratchy, and had a veil of curiosity over it.
"I'm the new sorority sister!" Ghost replied almost too enthusiastically. "Are you Billy?"
