I needed a break. I am currently laying in my bed, that was called a twin, though it barely held one. I had finished my studies and have now been stuck in my bedroom for the past hour, thinking of my life choices. I could either save up money to attend art school, though my parents would hate that, or go to the nearby community college, which would make my parents happy. I hadn't thought much on what I was planning during my studies and it had just now hit me that most kids my age already had their lives planned out. Attend Harvard, get a medical degree, and so on. But I hadn't thought for a second about my plan, up until now.
I opened up my window, letting the cool air in from outdoors. My family had owned a ranch for generations and decided a hundred years ago to build a cottage, which meant it was extremely old and I swear I hear ghosts in it sometimes, but it may just be the old floors. My mother was outside, tending to our dog, Peter, who was a brown and white Border Collie. He was our farm dog but also my best friend. I threw on a grey sweater and black jeans before I headed downstairs and slipped on my brown boots. I walked into the kitchen to see my dad sitting at the table, doing adult stuff, which I still don't understand. He gave me a look and shook his head, fixing the silver rimmed glasses on his face.
"Your hair looks better styled differently," he said. It sounded passive aggressive but I assumed he was talking about my middle split and certain bangs that may not have looked as appealing with my reddish brown hair and freckles, located along my face and body. I had grabbed a roll of bread that had been served just a few minutes prior and I headed outside, ignoring his comment. Peter made his way in front of me, his tail wagging as I pet his head. He gave me some kisses before he went after the ball I threw for him.
