WE WALKED DOWN THE ROAD!

adam was gripping on to my arm.

i felt like i was going to disappear if he let go of me.

"what are you looking at?" older adam questioned, staring back at his father

louis shrugged. "you guys are still here. i figured after we elongated time travel, you three would go back to your fixed times."

"it probably takes a while for 30 years of changed time to sort itself out." older adam reasoned.

"i don't think we have long." adam said sadly. "i can feel something happening."

i felt sick to my stomach as we approached the house.

i'd been trying so hard to stay connected.

but every second it felt like i was drifting away. like if i blinked wrong, or shut my eyes too quickly, i'd be somewhere else.

i was fading away.

"gotta appreciate time." i said, squeezing his hand.

i didn't need to tell adam i could feel myself slipping.

he was in enough pain already.

louis opened the front door of the house.

"sure it's okay for us to be here?" adam asked, walking into the living room.

"it's fine. your mom takes you to science club on thursday's." louis reassured.

"look, uhm, dad.. there's something we need to tell you." older adam began.

i looked up instantly.

"i.. i already know. i knew the moment i saw you. i'm sorry, boys, i'm, uh.. i'm not gonna be there for you down the road, and i've given it a lot of thought, but you cannot tell me how or when it happens. you came back here because no one has a right to change the future, including us." louis cut them off.

"it's your future." older adam denied.

"no. you're my future. both of you. and how lucky am i that i got to see it? i haven't been there for you. and i'm sorry. but i saw you being born, i watched you take your first breath. and after that happens, nothing is ever the same again. you're my son, adam. and i love you. you're my boy, and i love you."

"okay, you don't have to do all that-"

"i loved you from the first minute that i saw you. and that will never change."

"i- i get that."

"adam, you're my boy."

"dad? we really don't have to do all-"
