Mixed Signals

Hey! I'm Fairy Maria Davis, I'm a 12th grader and I'm 18 years old. This is the story of how my love life started.

I was walking through the halls, making my way to the cafeteria. It was already 5 pm and I had just gotten out of the library to get books to read for tomorrow. I smiled as I imagined my soon to be love-life with Agos. Agos is my first love. I have had my eyes on him since kindergarten and now that we're in highschool, we've gotten pretty close. Agos' family are pretty close friends with my family. We're like a clan. My mom and his mom have been best friends since forever. We're actually going on a family trip together with Agos' family tomorrow. It's kind of like a traditional thing. We do it every September. I also have a plan to officially confess. Agos still thinks of me as a friend but sometimes I see it in his eyes. He's starting to like me. I can feel it when he touches me, when he looks at me, and the way he talks to me. I know it.

I had a bunch of books in my hand as I walked through the open cafeteria door. I tried searching for Agos and as I walked with the mountain of books in my hand, I bumped into someone and fell down. Scattering the books. "Shit. I'm so sorry!" a guy with a very soothing baritone voice said, reaching his hand out to me to help. I gulped as I heard his voice. I looked up at him and saw his siren, blue eyes.

"It's okay. I'm fine." I took his hand and he pulled me up. I started picking up my books, trying my best not to look at him.

"I'd love to help but I gotta go." He said. "I'm sorry again, miss." he apologized again before running off.

I finally picked up all of my books and continued my search for Agos.

As my eyes landed on Agos, my heart broke into tiny little pieces. There he was with Eleodora... his first SERIOUS love. I felt my whole world crumbled as I stared at his face, trying to figure out what they were talking about. El was laughing at something and Agos was chuckling. His eyes were stuck to El's face like glue. My legs felt like noodles. I tried to walk away as tears dropped from my sorrowful eyes. I turned my back and ran. I ran away from the scene that invalidated my feelings for Agos.

"Ria, are you okay?" Himalah, my best friend, asked as she saw me running through the halls but I ignored her. I can't face her like this. This is too embarrassing. As I got to the exit of the school, I stopped. I was catching my breath while not wanting to breathe anymore.

"Ria, you're so dumb! How could you assume he likes you?!" I blamed myself. "Look at yourself! You look like chewbacca!" I added. "You're nothing compared to El." I muttered under my breath. I walked to the gate of the school, called a cab and went home.

As I got home, my tears had already dried and I had a genuine-looking smile plastered on my face. "Hey, mom." I greeted as I kissed her cheek. It was already 5:56 pm when I arrived.

"Oh, Ria. You're home earlier than normal? Did something happen?" Mom asked, concern was obvious on her face but I smiled at her.

"Nothing, just a little tummy ache. I'm going to my room to pack for tomorrow." I said and she smiled at me.

"Oh okay, honey. Call me when you need me, 'kay?" she said then kissed me on the forehead.

As i turned my back on mom, my smile quickly faded. I went upstairs to my room and locked the door. I sat down on the floor with my back against my door, contemplating if I should even go to the family trip. I mean... he might bring El. "Whatever. I'll just avoid him tomorrow."

I picked up a pink empty bag and started to plan my outfits. I have a body that pretty much fit the beauty standard and so I'm pretty confident in it. I packed a black two-piece bikini and a white one-piece that was backless. I love beaches, the waves make me feel calm. I packed a white night gown, sunscreen, a hat, and some sundresses.
