Lockdown

I opened my eyes slightly, yawning.

"Why am I not in my bed.." I'd mumble to myself, rubbing my eyes.

Oh, that's right. I fell asleep on the couch.

I'd move the blanket off of me. Turning myself to where my legs were off the couch. My feet hit something. Instantly looking down, I saw Copper was on the floor next to the couch, asleep.

I'd smile slightly.

Looking up at the TV, the news was on. I'd pull my legs back up onto the couch and pull them close to my chest. The news was talking about some incident that just happened. Turning up the volume, I'd listen closely. They didn't usually do stuff like this.

"It seems that Northway Hospital is in lockdown. Not a regular occurrence here." The news reporter said. "There must be something big going on if they locked everyone out, or in."

I'd gasp, I worked at Northway Hospital-

Instantly, I leaned down and shook Copper awake. He grunted slightly, lifting up his head drowsily.

"Copper we have to go back to work-" I'd say.

He looked at his phone, "it's only 3am- we don't need to be at work until 7.." he'd say.

"There's been an accident!" I'd raise my voice in fear.

Copper jumped up to his feet in an instant.

"Do we have time to change?" He'd ask.

"No- we need to go like this! Just put on shoes and let's go!" I'd scream, jumping off the couch and grabbing a coat.

Copper quickly put on his tennis shoes, and we both ran out the front door.

Jumping into the car, Copper quickly started the engine and we sped off.

There were news reporters everywhere once we arrived. We hopped out of the car and ran forward. Me and Copper stared in awe. In our 4 years of working here there's never been a lockdown.

"Copper how do we get in?!" I'd yell.

Copper looked around frantically, then ran to the fence, starting to climb it. The barbed wire at the top seemed painful as he grabbed it, vaulting himself over. He fell to the floor but got up quickly. Copper then ran towards me on the other side of the fence, quickly breaking a latch that locked it shut. Once broken, the gate opened. (Of course we closed it behind us in a hurry because of the news reporters.)

Running up to the doors, they were of course, locked. Copper backed up then slammed his side against the glass. He did it again until it broke and we both ran inside.

As we ran down the hallway to find out what was going on, my feet started making me rub towards the area of Cokes room. So, I ran faster. Copper following behind me. I ran faster and faster.

Running up the stairs because the elevator was shut down, the floor Coke was in was out of power. All the floors above the third we're out as well. (Coke was on the 4th.)

Lights were flashing. Whoever had epilepsy would be having a seizure right now- someone needs to check on all the patients.

"I'll check on the patients in the 5th floor- go see what's going on!" Copper would yell, running up the flight of stairs.

I finally reached Cokes room, only finding my way through the flashing lights. There were people in front of the door, dead and alive. Doctors and some patients all holding the door shut as best as they could. They were being pushed back, some slipping in the pools of blood underneath them.
