Darkness fills the room, the big black room. People awake from their beds as the dull broken light is turned on. Unable to force me out of bed I stay tucked under the thin sheet that is so called a blanket. My head is cushioned by the rock like pillow on top of the brick bed.

Everyone gets out of their pj's but I stay in my grubby, black and white ripped shorts and T-shirt. These are my only pair of pj's. Everyone has the same here at Lizzy Hills Orphanage for girls. We all also wear the same black and white uniform every day of our life's until we get adopted.

I like this colour code. It's normal and the same. I like things the same. But things won't be the same soon, you see I have to get adopted by the age of 16 or I have to go and work and earn money myself in the real world. I'm only 14 but that means I only have 2 more years.

Although, I have no future with parents as apparently I weird people out when they come to meet me. Apparently I'm different from the other girls. They say I'm weird. I freak the staff and other girls out. I don't understand why.

My name is Lux by the way, I've been here all my life. Unlike Annie though I didn't get a letter from my parents telling me they will come back. I just have hope I guess, im kidding they obviously don't have time for a daughter, or enough money? Or maybe they didn't want me?... I've had time to think of reasons they left me here in this run down place.

My friends bed is next to mine, well that's what she calls herself. Her name is Esme. She makes me call her Es. We are the same age, I avoid contact at all costs. I also do that with everyone else here. "Morning Lux, friend." Here she goes again. I don't respond. "It's snowing Lux!" We are next to the window, they are ever so dirty it's hard to see out of them.

I enjoy the snow, it's one of my favourite weathers along with rain. I try to resist the urge to go outside with her, but soon give in. I pull the cover of off my head slowly causing my straight black hair to fall into my face. I blow it out of the way and Es smiles excited at me that I'm coming out with her in snow.

"You like the snow" I tell her her own thoughts. This is why they call me different. "Well yes, everyone does!" She reply's. "You also enjoy other things, you enjoy the summer as well but not when it's to hot. You also enjoy watching me sl..." she interrupts me mid way. " you doing that thing again Lux." She chuckles awkwardly.

Apparently I do this often. But I don't understand what this is...

All I am doing is saying the things I hear.

I get dressed and go down stairs with her, her running and dragging my poor hand along with her down the long spiral stair case. My hair has a brown ribbon in that struggles to hold onto the thin strands of my dark hair as the wind guides it in the air.

Finally at the bottom we bust out of the doors with our welly boots on with a few holes in and thud into the snow outside. Esme runs into the snow and makes a snow angel. I go and bend down in the snow and grab a lump of it with my gloveless hand. Everyone else makes a snowman with out the accessories, taking turns so their friend can warm their hands up while the other collects the snow switching turns every few seconds.

I Carve a house into the snow on the floor and then make 3 stick figures they symbolise me my mum and my dad. I then scribble it all out with snow and look up to see a lady looking at me through the heads office ( the head is the person who runs the orphanage). Although I don't recognise this lady, she soon looks away after I catch her starring.

I go inside, after being out of ideas of what to do. I go and sit on my bed while holding my legs, I rest my head on my legs and stair out into the snow. I am the only one in the room. I like it like this. Alone with my thoughts. Unfortunately that is until a knock occurs at the door. I stay staring at the window while 2 people at the door mutter to each other.
