CHAPTER 4

"So this is it." Niall said to me as we walked into his flat. It was really nice, perfect for two people. I did notice that everything seemed relatively new, and not everything was in it's rightful place or it was missing.

I dropped my bags on the floor beside the door and took a few short steps to the near by couch. I took a deep breath before i plopped onto it face down.

"Yeah Kiki, I mean, make your self at home." He laughed as he grabbed my stuff and walked out of the  living area and down a hall way. I sat up after a moment and looked around the room innocently. There was a nice flat screen TV placed in front of me, and the walls were white with a few articles and awards on them. Wow, I was proud of him.

I got up off the couch and walked down the hall Niall went down after he didn't come back. I found his room down the hall and an empty one opposite of it. Before I went into Niall's room, I creeped into the other. It was completely empty except for a night stand with a lamp on top of it against the wall. I laughed and rolled my eyes as I turned to walk into his room.

"So am I sleeping on the floor?" I asked sassily as I watched Niall put some of his clothes away, he jumped a little when he heard my voice.

He scratched the back of his neck and looked up at the ceiling as he said, "Yeahhhh… about that…"

I swayed on and off my tippy toes as I waited for an answer.

"I don't really have the guest room set up yet, at all. But I didn't tell you that cause I wanted you to stay with me and not somewhere else!" He told me as he nervously talked with his hands.

I twirled my hair with my fingers and looked down, still waiting for him to continue.

"I mean, you can sleep with me… I don't want you to have to sleep on the couch, you know?" He suggested sweetly.

Well I used to sleep in the same bed with Niall when we had sleepovers… well till we turned 8. It wouldn't be weird I don't think. And as much as I loved that couch I didn't really want to sleep on it every night.

I walked up to Niall and put one hand gently on his neck, and the other on his cheek and looked up to him in the eyes. He looked down at my clearly confused as I seductively said, "I'll sleep with you." and bit my lip afterwards.

It took about three awkward seconds until we burst into utter laughter.

"Keely, you had me going there for a second." He laughed as he rubbed his forehead. I walked over to my bag and pulled out some plaid navy blue pajama pants and a white strapped tank top. I turned my head over to him and said "Oh I did, did I?" and winked at him. He just rolled his eyes again and went back to putting clothes away.

After I went into the connected bathroom to change I walked out to see shirtless Niall putting on a new shirt.

Not bad Horan, not bad.

"You've grown up." I smirked as I walked over to the bed and sat down on it.

He stood facing me blankly for a moment, then smiled shyly.

"A little." I added. The poor kids face just sank after that.

"I'm kidding!" I finished as I threw my hands into the air laughing.

"You're a brat." He said to me as he laid down beside me. We both looked up at the ceiling in silence.

Niall's ceiling was the coolest I had ever seen, it was see through, so you could see the stars when you looked up.

"It's cooler with the lights off, ya know." Niall suggested as he pointed to the light switch on the wall, obviously wanting me to flip it off.

I sighed obnoxiously as I sat up to go over to it.

When I flipped the switch off and tried to walk back Niall stopped me in my tracks.

"Wait, Kiki, can you grab the iPod on the dresser and plug it into my stereo? I don't sleep very well without it." He said sleepily as he was cuddled into the blanket.

I ran my hand across the dark dresser hoping to grab hold of the iPod in the darkness. When I grabbed hold of it, my jaw dropped. I played with it in my hands for a moment as I felt a tear fall across my face and happy butterflies fill my stomach.

"Niall…" I managed to say as I turned to face the boy who was practically asleep.

"Yeah?" He replied quietly into his pillow.

"This… this is my iPod. I can't believe you still have it! I left it at your house the night of the going away party. That plane trip to New York was absolutely dreadful, I didn't have any of my music. Did you add your songs onto it?" I asked him emotionally excited.

He slowly sat up and looked at me softly.

"Nah… all of your songs are still on there. I haven't changed a thing." He replied sweetly. "You crying?" He asked me with a concerned voice.

I didn't respond for a second as I put it into the speaker, "Never Say Never" by the Fray played throughout the room.

I turned back to face him and ran to him and hugged him.

The hug must had taken him back a little because I knocked him down again the bed.

We laughed like the old days as I awkwardly laid on top of him.

I shifted my hands to where they were against his chest and I lifted up slightly so I could properly look him in the eyes. My long brown hair fell perfectly basically covering our faces from anything but the eyes of each other.

Our laughs grew lighter and lighter the longer we stared at each other until Niall released a quiet "Ha…"

I looked into his pale blue eyes in the silence and honestly lost myself for a moment. The lyrics of the song played out in the background,

"We're pulling apart and coming together again and again

We're growing apart but we pull it together, pull it together, together again"

He had really grown up, and you know, so had I. We were the same people, but so different at the same time.

I couldn't help but feel very attracted to my best friend when I uncomfortably laid on top of him in this moment. It needed to stop.

"…Sorry." I smiled down at him embarrassed before I rolled off of him.

He didn't say anything for a second.

"It's fine." He finally replied.

As we both laid there looking up in the silence, my heart remained warm of the thought that he kept that little part of me, this whole time.

After about 5 mins I began to doze off, until I heard Niall begin to talk.

"When you left it on the treehouse, I selfishly decided to keep it. Not because I wanted to be a jerk best friend and piss you off, but because I wasn't sure when I would see you next. And I knew if I had that, I would always have that little piece of you with me. Wherever I went, I would still have that little bit of Kiki. It was something that meant so much more than any other gift or keepsake, music was us. The memories are the music."
