Dan POV
I saw it.
I saw it on the edge of the forest that leads into town while fixing a fence for the farm. The pigs, the sheep, and every other farm animal we owned began to freak out and ran around in a crazed frenzy. I quickly turned to the animals, trying to keep them calm because nobody else was here to do so. My parents and siblings were away, leaving me in charge of all the chores.
Again.
Not like anyone else would do this anyway.
After all the animals were safe inside the barn, I rushed back to the fence hoping to catch a glimpse of it again but with my terrible luck, it was gone. It left only a giant mess of clawed up grass and torn up crops which I now had to clean up.
I hopped the fence with the needed equipment and began to plow over the empty holes that once contained carrots, beets, and onions. Although I probably didn't do such a great job because my mind was running with too many thoughts and questions for me to do any kind of work properly.
Was it from the kingdom?
Was it from a different kingdom?
Why did it come to a run-down farm?
What did a lion want with onions?!
That's right, a fucking lion! I only saw it from the side but that was enough to gather that it was, in fact, a lion. It didn't seem to be a large lion, it's mane wasn't very long like I imagined but it definitely was orange and yellow, even though I only saw it for a few seconds.
My mind was still racing, questions began to pile up, and I was so out of it that I didn't realize that something was right behind me.
Time seemed to slow down.
I stood up straight as I felt its warm breath on the back of my neck. I could hear what began to be a soft, low growl as it circled around to face me. It was just about my size, with a shiny light orange coat and a silk-like yellow and brown mane. It's round, brown eyes stared at me as if it was trying to say, "What are you doing, human? Do you not like what I left you? I worked so hard on it."
The hairs on the back of my neck stood up, my hands began to shake, and I'm pretty sure that I had sweat stains all over me now. I panicked, trying to think of a way out, of a way to survive. And what did I do? The worst thing I could have possibly done.
I ran.
I ran the fastest I had ever ran before, hearing its giant paws bounding behind me. I tried to hop the fence (the broken fence to be exact) and my pants had gotten caught on the end of the fence post and ripped, leaving me with a hurt leg, ruined pants, and a somewhat large lion looming over me, growling. I backed myself onto the wall of my house and braced for my impending doom, but it never came.
I slowly opened my eyes to see the oversized cat rubbing against my scratched up leg, as if it were trying to make it feel better with its fluffy mane.
I squirmed my leg out from under its head to escape, when I did the lion stood up and stared at me. Now when I say that it stared at me, I mean that it really seemed to look at me, as a person, not just its dinner. I think if it could talk, it would be asking if I was ok or why did I run from it. It was entranced by me and I it, until the sounds of approaching people caught our attention.
The lion looked at me one last time, rubbed up against my chest, and ran back into the forest.
I nearly crapped myself.
My father wasn't exactly pleased that something had torn up half of our gardens and that I hadn't finished fixing the fence yet, so I was given extra chores.
Because it's not like I had just experienced something traumatizing or anything, why would something exciting happen on our worn down farm?
I looked into the mysterious forest for what felt like the hundredth time, wondering where it ran back to, if it had a home to hide in. I would never forget the great lion, that seemed to care so much without saying a single word.

HOLY SHIT I WROTE A THING.
YEAH.
Sorry for the super long delay about putting this up. Excuses, excuses, blah, blah, blah.
I hope you liked the prologue, this is only the beginning (duh). Feedback is welcomed, as this is my first story.
HOORAY FOR WRITING A THING!!
Updates might be constant? Not sure, but summer is coming up so that's a thing. I'll explain the backstory of this world later, as it may be confusing at first.
