Chapter One: Last Day of School
I awoke to the annoying sound of my alarm clock and groaned. God damn, whoever invented this contraption, must be sacrificed… immediately. My steel colored eyes fluttered open, and I sat up. The morning sun was shining through my window, I felt hot and sticky. Then realization hit me. It’s the last day of school! I jumped out and began belting “California Girls by: Katy Perry” at the top my lungs.
“Shut the hell up! You suck!” My twin brother, Michael, yelled through my bedroom door, I rolled my eyes.
“Suck my non-existent dick!” I yelled back. I smiled widely, I honestly didn’t care what Michael said; it was the first day of summer!
“It’s summer! It’s summer! Woo!” I screamed, running into my bathroom. I looked into my mirror my smiling face gleamed back. My smile then faltered.
“Son of a Bob Saget! What the hell happened to my hair?” I looked at my long brown curly hair that rested on the top of my head in a nest of tangles. I thought I told those elves to stay out, I joked to myself. I grabbed a brush and began taming the beast. After a few minutes of tugging, pulling, and hairspray, I managed to get it to curl nicely down to the small of my back. I straightened my side bangs slightly and walked to my closet. I checked my clock to see that it was 6:00. My jaw dropped to the floor.
“Holy Mother Mary! I only have a half hour to change!” I know school didn’t start until 8 but I live an hour away and plus the shitty traffic I was going to have to drive through, that added an extra thirty minutes. I threw open the sliding door and started hunting for the perfect outfit. Okay, pink? Oh hell no. I tossed the sweater behind me. Skinny jeans? Nah. Wait! I grabbed a pair of blue jean shorts with little cuffs at the end. Perfect! I ripped off my snoopy pajama bottoms and put on the shorts.
“Now, I just need a shirt!” I mumbled to myself as I dug through my shirt pile once more. I grabbed a white, floral halter-top that had tiny yellow flowers on it and put it on. Nice! I grabbed my brown flat sandals and glasses and put them on too. I checked the mirror. I looked pretty good if I say so myself.
“Okay,” I breathed. “Now it’s time for me to take my first step towards a fantastic summer!” I cheered.
I took one step and tripped, landing face first on the floor. Great, I can smell the beach now, I said sarcastically to myself. I looked up in disgust, or maybe it’s that rotting pizza slice under my bed. I picked myself up and started applying concealer to the dark circles that were under my eyes. I shouldn’t have stayed up to watch that bloody Scooby-Do marathon. I added a little eyeliner and some light pink lip tint and headed downstairs to see a plate of waffles on the table with a post-it note from my dad.
Honey,
I can’t believe you’re not going to be a sophomore anymore! I’m so proud of you! I’ll be home today also. I’m skipping the meeting so I can tell you some big, exciting news!
Love,
Dad
