As the morning went on, Annabelle started to get very overwhelmed and she was calling Esme asking if she could pick her up. Annabelle was currently sitting in the car after Esme had picked her up.
"Do you want to talk about it?" Esme asked.
Annabelle shook her head. Esme nodded and drove back to the house. When they got to the house, Annabelle started to head to her sensory room.
"Are you hungry?" Esme asked. I'm sure you haven't eaten lunch yet."
"Yes please." Annabelle said before continuing to her sensory room. She turned the tv on and put it on Disney Channel.
A few minutes later, Esme came in with Annabelle's lunch. It was a sandwich with ham, cheese, lettuce, bacon, and ranch with toasted bread. With sour cream and onion chips and lemonade. It was another meal she ate a lot.
"Are you ok?" Esme asked, setting the food on the table.
All of a sudden, Annabelle started to cry.
"Hey, it's ok." Esme said, sitting on the couch.
Just then, Renesmee came into the room. "You're back from school already, Annabelle?" She asked. "Do you want to do something together?" Annabelle didn't say anything.
"Nessie, can you give me a moment with Annabelle, please?" Esme asked her granddaughter.
"Okay." Renesmee said, skipping out of the room.
Esme turned back to Annabelle. "What happened today, Annabelle?" She asked.
"I was late to my classes because I had a hard time finding them and I couldn't find my locker." Annabelle said between sobs. "I just got more overwhelmed as the day went on."
"Shh. It's ok." Esme said, comforting Annabelle. "I'm sorry you had a bad day."
"I'm sorry." Annabelle said. "I know you guys wanted me to go to school."
"You have nothing to for, Annabelle." Esme reassured her. Annabelle stayed quiet. Esme sighed. "It's ok that you had a bad day. Everyone has bad days once in a while. You're going to have bad days sometimes." She said. "It's going to be ok. Take the rest of today to calm yourself down and try again tomorrow."
"Okay." Annabelle said. Esme started to get up, but Annabelle stopped her. "Can you stay and sit with me, please?" She asked.
"Yeah." Esme said. "Do you mind if Renesmee joins us?"
"That's fine, but I don't want to play with her." Annabelle said. "I just want to watch tv."
"Alright." Esme said. "I'll be right back." She walked out of the room and came back a moment later with Renesmee. They sat with Annabelle on the couch.
Annabelle played with her fidget cube to keep herself calm and Esme was rubbing her back softly to comfort her.
A little bit later, Esme got a phone call. "I'll be right back girls." She said. She walked out of the room. "Hello?" She said, answering the phone.
"Hi, Mrs. Cullen. This is Rebecca." Came a woman on the other line.
"Oh. Hi." Esme said.
"I was just calling to see how Annabelle's first day at a new school went." Rebecca said.
"Well, it didn't really go very well." Esme said.
"What happened?" Rebecca asked.
"A couple things got her overwhelmed and she called me to pick her up early." Esme explained. "She's alright now."
"Could I talk to her?" Rebecca asked.
"Sure." Esme said before heading back into the room. "Annabelle. Do you want to talk to Rebecca?"
Annabelle nodded and Esme handed her the phone.
"Hey Belle." Rebecca greeted.
"Hi." Annabelle said.
"I heard you had a bad day today." Rebecca said.
"I did." Annabelle said.
"I'm sorry, Annabelle." Rebecca said. "I'm sure tomorrow will be better."
"I don't want to go back." Annabelle said.
"I know you had a bad day today, but you have to go to school, Annabelle." Rebecca said.
"I've never liked school." Annabelle said. "I wish I could be home schooled."
"It will get better, Annabelle." Rebecca assured her. "You just need to give it a chance. Alright?"
"Okay." Annabelle said, sighing.
"Can you put your foster Mom back on?" Rebecca asked. Annabelle handed the phone back to Esme.
Later that night, Esme and Carlisle were in Carlisle's office.
"Did we push Annabelle too hard to go to school?" Esme asked. "She was really upset today."
"She was fine this morning." Carlisle said. "She was just nervous. I'm sure tomorrow will be better."
"Should we home school her?" Esme asked.
"Let's give it some time and see how it goes before we decide anything." Carlisle said. Esme nodded.
