I haven't spoken to Grayson all week. He's been ignoring my phone calls and I'm starting to get annoyed with him. I was eager to see him today. I push the covers back from my bed. I go to stand up but my bedroom door opens. "Good you're up. We don't want to be late." My mother says. "We?" I ask. She nods. "You're boot comes off today. Don't you remember?" She asks. It's completely slipped my mine. I've been to focused on distracting myself from Grayson all spring break. But now being back home he's all that I could think about. "Right. Just let me change." I say. She nods walking out of my room. I get out of bed walking to my dresser. I change back from my pjs into a summer dress. I shove my foot back into my boot and into a flat walking out of the room. "It's the big day, huh?" Dad asks. I grin biting my lip. "Yes, I'm excited." I say. He chuckles kissing the top of my head. "Good luck then bud." He remarks running down the stairs. I walk into the kitchen grabbing a bar off of the counter. "We can get something to eat later right?" I ask Mom. She nods. "Yeah, we don't have time now." She says to me. She looks at my father kissing him. I groan walking towards the door. "I'll be in the car." I yell. I can hear my parents laughing as I step outside. I talk my time walking to the car knowing that it's still locked. Thankfully my mom walks out a few moments later. She unlocks the car. We open the doors at the same time and get in. I buckle up waiting for her to start the car. This is the first time we've been alone since I've been back for spring day. She hasn't asked me about it and I know she wants to. We didn't do much. After the tattoo with Cody. We went to a few clubs throughout the day. Attended a few parties. Honestly we spent most of the time at a party, cook out or social outing in one way or another. Even if my mother asks I'm not going to tell her that I spent most of spring break parting. Or that I seen Brad the first day there. Thankfully he hasn't tried to get ahold of me since then. I slide the message button over opening the message I got from Cody. Cody: Sorry you couldn't be here today! But good luck with your crippled leg. I couldn't help but laugh at his message. Of course he would send something like that.
Me: Good to know I'm a cripple in your eyes. I send the message clicking the phone closed tucking it under my leg. My mother clears her throat glancing over at me. "Do you talk to any of your old friends from school?" She asks. "No. Not one." I say quickly. She nods not saying anything else. She cranks up the air conditioning and then turns up the radio. We drive to the doctors office in silence for the rest of the ride. When we arrive she pulls up to the front. "Go register and sign in. I'm gonna go try find a parking space." She orders. I nod getting out of the car. I walk inside going to the registration window. "Hi, I'm here for an appointment." I say. "Name?" The nurse asks. "Riley." I answer. She nods pressing a button next to her computer. "Walk on back here." She says. The door buzzes and I step in. She meets me by the door walking me down the hall. "We aren't busy today so we're gonna go ahead and get you in." She says. "Please step on the scale." She orders. I take a deep breath stepping on the scale. I avert my eyes away from the numbers not wanting to know how much I weigh. After she takes my weight and height we go to a room. She hands me a robe telling me to change then she leaves. After changing I get up on the examining table. I swing my legs back and forth waiting for the doctor to come back into the room. I couldn't wait to get out of here and go back home. "Ms. Clack, I'm Dr. Daniels." He introduces himself. "So we are here to take this boot off. Am I right?" He asks trying to be friendly. I nod awkwardly. He smiles taking my vitals. "If I may.." He scoots closer to me taking off my boot. I watch him as he examines my leg and tells me to move my ankle on a circular motion. Finally he stands up scribbling on a piece of paper. "Ms. Clark, you are free to go." Dr. Daniel says. I couldn't stop the grin from coming across my face. "Now you'll have to take it easy. You do have physical therapy for the next few weeks but you're all clear. Have a nice day." He announces walking back out of the room. I jump off of the examine table changing back into my leggings and tee shirt. I grab for my shoes when I realize I only have one. I grab it off the floor running out of the room. My mother stands up when she sees me step into the waiting room. A smile on her face. "So you're gonna need new shoes." She states. I nod agreeing. She throws her arm around my shoulder. "Come on we can go to the mall." She says. I run outside to the car waiting impatiently for her to unlock the car. Once I hear the click on the car I jump inside. Mom starts the car driving onto the road heading towards the mall. We drive in silence for a long time until she breaks the silence. "How was spring break?" Mom asks glancing at me. I shrug my shoulders propping my legs on the dashboard. "The first night we got there I went with Cody while he got a tattoo." I smile at the memory of him. "The next two days we spent the day touring around town. Going to popular sceneries." I say. She nods uncrossing her arms. "After that?" She asks. "Just hung out. Went to the mall." I answer causally. I don't understand why she's being so nosy. She presses her lips together but doesn't say anything. We turn off of the main road heading down the street towards the entrance way of the physical therapist office. "So uh..have you talked to Brad?" She asks. I knew it. I knew she was in here because she wanted to know something. I frown shaking my head. I may as well tell her the truth. "Once. I told him that I didn't want to get back with him. That we were done for good and things were different. So stop worrying about it." I say. She smiles softly parking the car. She turns it off patting my leg. "Alright girly lets get our shopping on shall we?" She asks. Even though she was annoying me I couldn't stop the smile from forming on my face. I've hated having the stupid boot on. Now the day has come where it's off and I can shop for other things.
