As Steve walked up to Eddie's trailer, he couldn't help but think how amazing it was that he was even there. Before November of 1983, he hadn't thought anything mattered other than his popularity, basketball, and his hair. Now here he was, October of 1987, and he was knocking on Eddie "The Freak" Munson's door after surviving 4 near-death experiences involving other dimensions. He was holding a 6-pack of beer, even though he was the designated driver for the group. The door swung open and Steve snapped out of his thoughts, his eyes jumping up from the ground as the aforementioned 'Freak' smiled at him and beckoned him inside.
"Hey Harrington," Eddie said, and Steve felt his ears turn red just from that simple statement, though he told himself that it was just from the cold, and not from his humongous crush on Eddie.
"Hi," Steve breathed out, too distracted by the fact that Eddie had tied his hair up to form multi-word sentences. Eddie just smiled and gestured for Steve to head inside. Unbidden, his feet started moving forward as he brushed past Eddie and entered the trailer, his eyes falling upon the figures of 4 of his best friends, who were sitting on the floor and watching a movie. Robin, Nancy, Jonathan, and Argyle all turned toward the sound of his footsteps, smiling and waving once they realized who it was.
Steve surveyed them all, checking for any injuries or signs that something was off. It was a habit he had picked up after dealing with all of the Upside-Down shit for 4 straight years, but he didn't seem to find anything that indicated that they weren't A-okay. In fact, Jonathan and Argyle seemed to be better than A-okay, as they were holding joints and currently looked as if they had not a care in the world.
"Hey, Steve," they all chorused, and Robin jumped up to hug him. He hugged her with one arm and set down the beer with the other. As Steve turned toward the rest of the group, he noticed Eddie behind him. Just as he perceived this, Eddie put his hand on Steve's hip and gently pushed him out of the way, moving him closer to the T.V. and grabbing one of the bottles Steve had just put down. Steve doubted that Eddie even realized what he was doing, but even that simple touch sent shivers down Steve's spine.
After Steve had saved Eddie from the Upside-Down and brought him to a hospital just in time for the doctors to save him, he had formed a sort of attachment to the metalhead. At first, he had told himself that it was just because they had trauma bonded and he was just worried for Eddie, as he was still recovering from the bites, but once Eddie had fully recovered and the feelings had not abated, Steve had realized that he had a crush on the man.
Once he had realized this fact, he went immediately to Robin, who helped him through his sexuality crisis, all the while laughing about how he thought his feelings were purely platonic for months when really he had the biggest crush she'd ever seen on Eddie. From that point on, he had made a conscious effort to spend more time with Eddie, sitting in on Hellfire Club meetings ("For Dustin" he said), and trying to go to the group hangouts they had with the rest of the older teens in The Party
After he had taken a split second to reorient himself, Steve walked over to where the rest of his friends were watching a movie. He sat down in the little semi-circle they had formed and turned his attention to the screen.

"Steeeeeeeve! Stevie boy! How's it going?" Eddie asked, slurring his words together and just being very obviously high.
"I'm good," Steve said, smiling slightly, "but it might be time to cut you off for the night,". Eddie's eyes went wide and he shook his head, violently at first, before realizing that he would become nauseous if he did it for much longer, and slowed down.
"Nooooooo Stevie. I'm fine," he protested. Steve just smiled and said, "Tell that to your legs,".
"Huh?" Eddie mumbled, before looking down and realizing that he was swaying back and forth, and each time he took a step he swung violently from side to side. "Alright, fine" he conceded, and Steve grabbed his arm to keep him from falling.
