It was the first day of October. Kids ran around cheerfully going to school as one boy had just woken up.

He rubbed his eyes and yawned. He then pulled his phone out from under his pillow and paused for a minute.

He then jumped up quickly and said," Oh man I'm late! Mom's gonna kill me."

He quickly took a shower, got dressed really quickly, brushed his teeth, and grabbed something small to eat. He then slipped his sweater on and began jogging to his school.

He arrived and said," Aw shit."

He then walked through the doors and quickly ran to his class. He opened the class door as the teacher said," And that is the story of The Unspoken Vintage."

The boy walked into class and said," Hey teach. Sorry I'm late."

The teacher then said," Do you have a pass, Ryan?"

Ryan put his hand on the back of his head and chuckled while he said," Nah. Was in a rush. Didn't have time."

Some of the kids chuckled and some looked annoyed by Ryan's same old ways.

The teacher sighed and said," You need to stop doing this Ryan. I'll let you go now, but a warning for next time."

Ryan then nodded and said," Yeah. Thanks. Sorry again... haha."

He then walked to his seat in the back of the class. A girl next to him chuckled and said," Finally back huh? You've missed so many days of class."

Ryan nervously smiled and said," Uh. Yeah that's my fault."

The girl chuckled while covering her mouth as Ryan looked out the window.

He squinted as he thought," Why do I see them every October? The shadows."

He then put his head down as he began to fall asleep. The same girl then tapped his shoulder and said," Yo. You sleeping bro? Already? You just got here."

Ryan lifted his head and said," Oh uh. Yeah I'm just tired. Was up late last night researching..."

The girl rose her eyebrow and said," Researching what bro?"

Ryan looked out the window and said thinking of something on the spot," Colleges. Yeah."

The girl sighed and said," Stop lying to me. We've been friends for awhile. It's easy to tell."

Ryan shrugged and said," Eh it's not important nonetheless. Just gotta focus on getting through the day so I can get home and sleep."

The girl chuckled and said," Ah. Alright. I see."

Ryan then looked out the window and said," Yeah. No need to worry Rebecca. It's all good."

A few hours later...

The bell rang signifying lunch for some. Those some including Ryan.

He sat down at his lunch table and put his head down quickly. A boy sat next to him with his lunch tray and said," Yo. Been awhile since you've been here at school. The hell happened?"

Ryan sighed and said," Nothing much. It's just... family issues."

The boy nodded and said," Ah. That's fair. Family problems are the worst man."

Ryan nodded and said while putting his head back down," Yeah."

The boy looked at him while taking a bite into his pizza and said," You alright man?"

Ryan sighed and said," Yeah... my eyes burn. That's about it Jared."

Ryan thought in his head," It's been about 13 years since I first started to see them. The shadows. My eyes always start to burn a ton before October. And when October arrives, I see the shadows everywhere. I always wondered why. I'd look things up online to see if I could find anything, but there's nothing. I'd search the house, my grandparents house too to see if its inherited. Nothing at all. Nothing as to why I see these things. November first is the day I go blind. Luckily it only lasts one day. I've lived like this for the past 13 years."

Someone then said as the lunch room got quiet," Everyone. Have you guys heard of The Unspoken Vintage."

Everyone sat there and looked at the kid. Some kids even yelled out responses.

Jared crossed his arms and said," Sheesh. Kids are getting all riled up over some fake Halloween story."

Ryan looked up and said," Hm? A Halloween story? Interesting."

Jared glanced over and said," Wait huh?! You're actually interested in something for once?"

Ryan rolled his eyes and said," Oh come on. I play video games too."

Jared shook his head and said," Nah. That's not important. Anyways, I didn't know you were interested in scary things. Even after all these years of being your friend."

Ryan then put his head back down and said," Yeah. I am intrigued. Scary things are... I don't know. Mysterious. Especially a good mystery. Though I wouldn't say it's worth risking my life for."

Jared nodded and said," Ah I see. Anyways. You know that story that kid mentioned?"

Ryan peeked up and said," Yeah?"

Jared grinned and said," I know where that mansion in the story is at."

Ryan popped his head up and said," For real? Cool."

Jared then said," Wanna go check it out after school today?"
