The Orphanage wasn't a really pleasant place. The orphans were put to labour as soon as their motor skills had developed and they could walk and run with ease. They had to work from 4 in the morning to 11 at night with only one break for a bit of food while the owners of the orphanage had huge feasts of roast pork and juicy, tender chicken wings and fed on the ripest fruits. The people running in the orphanage (if you could call them people) were always lazing around. They would hit the orphans if they felt that they did not do enough work or did not do their job well. Even if they were sick, they would still have to work. It was no wonder that Faith and Kay would eventually run away.
