I carefully pull open the heavy door cautious of the loud bell at the top of the diner door. The soft retro music fills my ears and the warmth envelops me reminding me of the hours i spend here as a kid. I quietly push pash the small door at the end of the counter. When i see the back of her head my pulse races a mile a minute. I swiftly grab the apron off the hook. Im so late for my shift gosh she's going to kill me. oh gosh imagine i die in this diner. as i push that thought away the loud voice of plates meeting the floor echoes in the diner. She wips her head back searching for the sound . A loud "sorry everyone!" comes from the same place plate when crashing. When her narrowed eyes meet mine i wince. "i'm so sorry i got caught studying for the big exam i have tomorrow an-" I burt out before my grandma stops me. "i know how college can be baby but next time you're late" she raise her hand indicating that she will probably slap me like she painfully slapped me when i was a kid i squirm at the thought. "now go help Jamie clear up the plates" she walks away into the kitchen but not before she kissed my cheek.
After clearing up the plates I walk back into the diner when a man's voice greets me "Hey Mel" I smile when i see it's just our diner chef and by the way he makes a mean burger my mouth watering at the thought. "Hey Paco!" I yell through the diner window. well it not really a window it doesn't have glass it's meant for me to yell at Paco the orders and him to hand me plates while he yells 'order up' it's actually one of my favourite parts of my grandmas diner. i grew up here i laughed cried and laughed more. my friends and I would come here after school and my grandma would make us help around and then reward us with milkshakes. she named it 'amour' because my grandfather used to tell her she was his love in french. their live story makes me melt just at the thought. my grandma basically raised me took me to school everyday and paid for my college tuition. My mum she great she helps out at the diner to but she a doctor so she doesn't have much time for us. and my dad well... he's out being a deadbeat somewhere. i work at my grandmothers diner mainly because i like the people their and because my grandmother would kill me if i got a job somewhere else. "Mel stop daydreaming go take that guys order" she snaps. i grab my notepad and pencil and walk over to the guy with a menu covering his face. mysterious i silently think. the mysterious guy lowers his menu. behind that menu i am met with a sharp jawline that could be straight out of a magazine. dark wavy hair falls down his head. i notice a slightly bruised lip but then get distracted by his deep brown almost black eyes. i shoot my eyes back to my notepad out of pure embarrassment. "i would like the classic amour burger" a deep voice gently says breaking the awkward silence.
